Trying to stop the spread of bird flu (and other poultry pathogens!) has been proving immensely difficult, with no easy fixes. I write about why this is today in The @Telegraph. 🐔🦠
"It is best we start now, to minimise the number of times we continue to roll the dice on a new pandemic." 🎲 A brilliant op-ed, penned by Dr @ThomRawson, in @Telegraph discussing the risk of #H5N1 & what we can do to avoid potential disaster. 👀👉 https://t.co/SrYqblKRrJ
New paper out in @PLOSCompBiol looking at how various demographic factors across areas of England influenced (and didn't influence) transmission of COVID-19 during the #pandemic. https://t.co/L9K42yp1Mc

A big thanks to everyone involved with the project. @liza_p_semenova for some excellent code support, R. Sonabend for the non-epi perspective, W. Hinsley for data wizardry, and @dr_anne_cori and @neil_ferguson for the best mentoring there is. Time to get to work on the next one!
Our paper looks at England at the "LTLA"-level. That's England divided up into 306 little chunks. And each of these little chunks had their own, often very different, number of COVID-19 cases over time. See in fig A) the national totals of new cases, B&C) examples of two LTLAs.
This is ofc a v. brief summary, you may be thinking: "But what about X? Did you not consider Y!?". We have a big thick supplementary doc attached that looks at all these specifics. In general, every tweak and consideration does not change the headline results above.
