Earlier this month, @CDF_Aust joined @JoeBVic and @ThomsonVicki at the ASPI Defence Conference to discuss how @DefenceAust, industry and broader society can work together to strengthen Australia's national preparedness and resilience.

Agreed, @ThomsonVicki. Universities have a vital role in shaping the national discourse, cultivating our national consciousness, and aligning the attitudes and competencies of graduates with our national interest, future resilience, and strategic needs. This includes fostering critical thinking, civic responsibility, and innovative problem-solving—free from bias and ideology—to meet the challenges of a rapidly changing and competitive multipolar world order.
What systematic changes are needed in higher education to enable this? @ASPI_org
We would like to pay special thanks to our Chair, Duncan Lewis AO DSC CSC, Deputy Chair @ThomsonVicki, Treasurer Adam Lai & Honorary Board Member His Excellency @GVisentinEU, Ambassador of the EU to Australia, for their strong leadership, tremendous support & encouragement.
Very disappointing and factually wrong comments by @paulsakkal on @InsidersABC that “foreign students don’t speak English”. Clearly we need to educate our journalists that Australia’s English entry level standards into our unis are some of the highest in the world! @uniaus
We’ve been clear this week.
The Commonwealth needs to go back to the drawing board and consult more on international student caps.
First step: @JasonClareMP needs to reopen the ESOS inquiry and host more public hearings.
The kind of message you want Government to be giving to international students: clear, warm, supportive.
International students have global opportunities open to them. The unambiguous and welcoming message counts.
Great to catchup in Canberra with 3 good friends and international student advocates @LukeSheehyUA @ThomsonVicki and @Navitas Simon Finn. Big day tomorrow in Senate Education Committee’s hearings on university caps - hoping for key changes !
Senate Standing Committee on Education & Employment in session. ESOS amendments under the microscope. #Quality & #integrity of Australia’s international #HigherEducation sector well represented by @LukeSheehyUA@ThomsonVicki & @RegUniNet’s Alec Webb: ‘a team Australia effort’.
Former @UNSW Deputy Vice-Chancellor Professor George Williams starts his role as Vice-Chancellor and President of @westernsydneyu today. We'll miss him at the @GroupOfEight and wish him all the very best for his new and exciting role at WSU.

@TimDoddEDU
In a story marking his start as @westernsydneyu VC today, Prof George Williams tells @harejulie in the @FinancialReview that the contribution of international students to local economies has been missed in the heated political rhetoric over migration.

“The Berlin Statement reinforces our role as thought leaders, as research powerhouses delivering evidenced-based research and innovation, and as guardians of freedom of speech - no matter the challenges,” @GroupOfEight CE @ThomsonVicki.
"For every full-time Australian citizen who studies medicine or vet, the University of Sydney needs to find more than $10,000 in additional funding each year to cover the full cost of teaching and training." https://t.co/nZkRh6OLqS
Huge kudos to the Canadian Govt and my colleagues @U15ca on reaching agreement with the @EU_Commission to join Horizon Europe - the world’s largest research fund! Come on Australia! We can do it! @GroupOfEight@EurAusBiz@ChadGaffield
A big day for Canadian & European researchers as the agreement to join Horizon Europe Pillar 2 was signed in Montreal.
U15 Canada welcomes this positive opportunity.
Our CEO, Dr. Chad Gaffield, joined Minister @FP_Champagne and European Commissioner @Ili_Ivanova at the signing.
The AUKUS Prize: 🇬🇧🇺🇸🇦🇺
Brilliant @GroupOfEight graph shows how, teaming up, the UK, USA & Australia (light blue) could together genuinely challenge, match, or even lead, China’s research supremacy in vital advanced capabilities.
The @GroupOfEight CE @ThomsonVicki grabbed her international colleague Tim Bradshaw, CE of the UK’s @RussellGroup, at this year’s Global Research Intensive University Network (GRUIN) meeting in Berlin for a quick chat about the value in meeting with their international partners.
