Two weeks ago, I resigned from OpenAI to join Conduit as a founding researcher, where we're training models to non-invasively read the human mind.
I've written some thoughts about what telepathy could look like by 2035 and how to get there:
๐จA SINGLE LAB MONKEY IN CHINA NOW COSTS MORE THAN A NEW CAR. $26,000 EACH.
BREEDERS ARE COMPLETELY SOLD OUT FOR THE YEAR, AND THE REASON EXPOSES THE DARK SIDE OF MODERN MEDICINE!!!
In June, a Chinese state lab paid 178,000 yuan per macaque. Nearly double last year's price.
Call any breeder in Guangxi today and you get the same answer: sold out. Every monkey this year is already reserved. Next year's list isn't open.
Here's why that matters.
Before a drug touches a human, regulators require safety testing in an animal close enough to us biologically. For biologics, cancer antibodies, gene therapies, weight-loss drugs, rats and dogs are useless.
So the monkey isn't optional. It's the gate every drug has to pass through.
And a single drug candidate burns 60 to 80 of them.
Four years to breeding age, one baby a year, three more years before that baby is usable.
Six to seven years from birth to usable animal. No factory. No overtime shift. Biology sets the pace.
Meanwhile China ran over 5,000 clinical trials last year. 2026 demand is projected above 60,000 monkeys. Supply is around 30,000.
So the research giants started buying the farms. WuXi, Pharmaron, and Joinn spent hundreds of millions acquiring breeding operations. One firm now sits on roughly 30,000 animals.
And because live animals count as biological assets on a balance sheet, rising monkey prices book as profit. One lab's earnings recently exploded. Not because it sold more services. Because the monkeys already sitting in its enclosures got more valuable.
The industry nickname says it all. Monkeys are biotech's GPUs. Whoever controls the supply controls who gets to build.
The scramble also drove so much poaching of wild macaques across Southeast Asia that the species was formally reclassified as endangered in 2022.
We're pouring billions into AI that designs new drugs in days.
Then the entire pipeline stops and waits on a monkey that has to be born, and then grow up.
You can 10x your algorithms overnight.
You cannot 10x a pregnancy.
imagine someone who is interning under one of the best social media agencies which mastered the art of hyper engineering short form content to fuck up your brain and fry up your dopamine receptors.
according to you, how would that person feel?
@ash_twtz nah, i am being cucked by ai.
only being there to steer and to drive the ai to achieve the desired results i wanted.
as naval famously said "burn tokens and save time".
that's what i am doing at this point.
this is what @elonmusk have been saying since the early days.
mark my words, "AI are far more dangerous than nukes"
the above statement is said by elon musk in one of his public interviews.
ayo, one more day of experiencing the premium side of @X .
@grok , it seems like the recommendation algorithm of X finally works well.
what do you think?
@allodev@interesting_aIl and sometimes they charge you a shit amount of money to listen to your problems.
make some good friends to vent out when life gets heavy.
