Using Localstack to test resources without actually setting them up in AWS can work well in many cases and save you $$$'s.

Localstack allows you to simulate local instances of many AWS services and test your application code against them before you push to the actual AWS services.

With each version of Localstack more services and resource types are supported and the simulation gets closer to actual AWS resources.

You still need to consider if the behaviour is close enough to ensure you will see the same results when using real AWS resources.

The example below from Axel shows how you can setup various AWS services like AWS Lambda, DynamoDB, and API Gateway locally using Localstack.
