When the British left Nigeria with only three regions, Western, Eastern, and Northern, the old South had already been broken up and used to enlarge the Western and Eastern Regions.
In 1939 the Southern Provinces were split, so the non-Igbo peoples of Calabar, Ogoja, and Rivers, and the non-Yoruba peoples of Benin and Delta, were attached to regions dominated by larger groups.
That was deliberate, and those peoples soon began to agitate.
The Calabar-Ogoja-Rivers (COR) movement took up the fight in the Eastern Region from 1953 and pressed its case before the Willink Commission, but it was never granted a referendum to form an autonomous region.
Only the Midwest was allowed one: on 13 July 1963, Benin and Delta Provinces voted to leave the Western Region, and the Mid-Western Region was proclaimed on 9 August 1963, the only region Nigeria ever created by constitutional referendum.
Today some still ask, โWhat the hell is the South-South?โ It is those same peoples: the old COR provinces and the old Midwest, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Cross River, Delta, Edo, and Rivers, the core Southern people you all call minorities.
@BombcrashedUTD@patrickanum Tell the truth to yourself. The Igbos that I know can not coexist on their own even if they have seaport, Igbo people need other people they can decieve and manipulate to show that they are smart, ona no reallt like ona sef.
