@realmikeglynn Ex-military pilot here. The way we flew night visual approaches was to stay at the minimum safe IFR altitude until established on final then descend. Even if cleared for the visual we use the ILS system to assist.
@JediFoolish@glen_mcgregor My bad on the court martial.
But why descend from 23,000 to 14,000’ and then engage.
MLRS looks nothing like anti tank weapons but I wasn’t there and didn’t see what he saw.
@JediFoolish@glen_mcgregor Except he was initially above the threat envelope for small arms fire, but while waiting for AWACS to get back to him, he descended into the threat envelope and declared self defence.
Many other factors but I believe the above actions are why he was court marshalled.
@ThomasWatsonCD 2 F-16 pilots observed small arms fire. Were told to standby by AWACS. One pilot declared self defence and dropped 500lb bomb on the Canadians. But was at 23,000 feet which was well above the threat envelope of small arms or even AA fire.
@PierrePoilievre Except our natural gas fields are far from the coastline compared to the US, Qatar and Australia, which effectively doubles the cost of our product. As well, Asia is planning to wean themselves off of LNG so Australia and Qatar can easily meet the demand.
