The oil market now reminds me of when prices were around $30 in March 2020. Plenty of people who never looked at oil were going long oil futures, not realising what could happen to the roll. A few weeks later prices traded negative, with a $50+ contango for WTI a day before expiry. They looked at oil futures like equity, not understanding the impact of futures roll. This time is similar, plenty of people shorting the oil market thinking the Strait of Hormuz will eventually reopen and things will go back to normal. Many are trying to call the top. Without realising they might have to roll their shorts at $30, $50, $70+ backwardation?

But this seasonal respite only points to an un-ignorable truth:
If we want to solve Dublin’s congestion problems, we must solve the school run.
Most of the conversations that I have about nuclear energy, leads to the same question: “- but what about the waste? -What waste? -Well, you know, it remains highly hazardous for a long time and…”
Let me tell you 3 facts about nuclear spent fuel:
1️⃣ A nuclear power plant, supplying energy to a large city with millions of residents, consumes less than half a liter of uranium daily, resulting in less than half a liter of spent fuel produced each day. AND: About ~95% of this waste can be recycled, like France currently does.
2️⃣ No human has ever been harmed by nuclear waste. Contrary to common perception, spent nuclear fuel is in solid form, securely packaged in high-level waste containers (ultra-strong containers) designed to withstand extreme conditions and provide secure long-term storage for radioactive materials. Also, we have precise knowledge of its location and composition.
3️⃣ After ~300 years, the harmful radiation diminishes. Therefore, we store it in deep geological repositories. Finland's repository, Onkalo, is a notable example, with negligible environmental impact.
The 'waste problem' doesn't even require a solution; it's not a problem at all.
And remember: Are you actively advocating for saving the planet? Excellent idea! Construct more nuclear power plants. The more, the faster, the better.
This isn't an opinion; it's science.
So, at the end of the day, Jeff Currie wasn't too wrong.
Yes, Saudi cuts helped, obviously. But those offset surging Iranian flows. Meanwhile, oil demand is, as he predicted, booming -- everywhere.

Europe reduces Carbon Emissions by 1.65bnt til 2030. For that we may waste €20trn on zero productivity gains, risk our industrial base or get greenflation.
Meanwhile, Asia will add those 1.65bnt we save every other year, assuring CO2 increases globally.

The West committed to eliminate its 30% of global CO2 emissions by 2050. Neither China nor India have such timelines. Unless the West decarbonises in synch with China & India, taxpayers in the USA, Europe or Japan will carry all of the cost but none of the benefits of net-zero.
