It was pretty much a full-stagger of Anthony Edwards and LaMelo Ball in the 1st half.
Edwards and Ball shared the floor for the first 7 minutes of the half and lthe ast 2 minutes of the half. Other than that, one rested while the other played (other than a little 15-second overlap).
The Timberwolves, despite all the offseason concern over rebounding, dominated the glass last night against the Bam and Giannis frontcourt.
They out rebounded the Heat 52-34.
That includes a 17-4 offensive rebound differential leading to a 2nd chance points disparity of 20-6 in Minnesota’s favor.
Exactly what you wanted to see out of this squad.
Jeff Teague says he’s taking Portland’s backcourt over Minnesota’s
“Ja Morant is better than LaMelo Ball. And Anthony Edwards and Dame is a toss up.”

This is something I’m very interested to see more of on nights where the shot isn’t falling and the Wolves have to pivot on the fly.
There’s something here with Jaden, and it’s a sneaky great way to make him a prominent part of the offense. He’s also flashed the ability to toss lobs to Rudy, which would make this nearly un-guardable.
The Wolves have so many weapons and ways to force a defense to pick their poison.
Wolves used this basic action with Jaden slipping a lot in preseason. You can try and just go under and dare the long 3, but if LaMelo rejects, you're in trouble. They don't want him getting downhill even though he's a bad finisher because of what he can create off it.
So you put two at level and then Jaden's slipping into SO MUCH SPACE. Teams will get a scout on this in time but it's pretty tough given how good Jaden has gotten.
The pack just got supercharged, and the most electric backcourt in the game has the top of the league in its sights. The show is just getting started as Anthony Edwards and LaMelo Ball star on SLAM 265.

I genuinely look forward to how this fills out by the time we get to the playoffs. It’s always had a really fun way of perfectly summing up the season.
Last night was awesome for the Timberwolves. That said, I’m curious to see what this team does for offense when the shot isn’t falling from deep.
Minnesota has the shooting talent to lean into the deep ball, but it’s when they can pivot to other things on top of the shooting threat that’s going to really excite me.
The bones are there. I think Jaden is very interesting as a short roll option because he can handle, pass, and is lethal from the midrange if you give him a sliver of space.
I also think the PnR game could be another option to either get a good look for LaMelo or Rudy or find someone on the perimeter to attack a shifted defense.
Really intrigued to see what happens when they face some adversity.
Yeah, Donte lead the team in net rating last year for a reason. He’d crack every rotation in the league because his skillset is so valuable.
TJ can physically play down as a wing, and Donte’s shooting will crack open driving lanes for both Ayo and TJ. Ayo already is out in a spot that’s not his strongest suit as a lead playmaker off the bench. Donte would help shoulder that load and give Ayo more off ball looks.
There’s a very real chance Minnesota cracks the top 5 team shooting seasons in NBA history these next couple of years. They could even be a threat to prime Golden State’s highest mark of 41.6%.
Helluva debut for this new Wolves offense. LaMelo + Ant are going to flirt with peak Splash Bros in 3P volume. Wolves dominated on glass + forced TOVs, too.
Heat looked bad. Very little offense outside of Giannis. Poor shooting. Non-Giannis minutes were so bad. Very uninspiring.
Kuminga did the one thing I was looking for:
Absorb the physical 4 matchup.
If the Wolves are going to translate to the postseason, they need this from Kuminga. He had a few rough stretches, but it’s mistakes that can be cleaned up with more reps in this system and lineups.
Just great to see him win every now and then defensively against a monster like Giannis. That’s not easy to do.
Clark is going for payback for the unnecessary effort from the Heat.
Jaden tells the heat to chill and then looks at Clark like a proud father.
Rudy stands up with a grin.
Kuminga walks into the frame with a "Dayum."
LaMelo pops up like a whack-a-mole...
Yeah, the vibes are high. Timberwolves spoil Giannis' debut with a 25-point blowout at the Kaseya Center.
@allthingsmn Genuinely think they’re a threat to Golden State’s 41.6% 3pt shooting mark. It’s not the overall record, but functionally is the modern record as anything higher is on extremely low volume.
We knew coming into the season that this kind of front court would be exceedingly tough on the Wolves. Rudy isn’t built to handle these guys on his own.
Haha yeah, I was talking about this on a few pods this week. I thought the heat had such a ridiculous matchup advantage, but at the same time I buy this Timberwolves backcourt making the pace difficult to keep up with no matter how many advantages you have.
I’m really intrigued to see if Kuminga can handle the Paolo matchup next game. That’s an early test that’s going to be a crucial aspect of this team translating to the playoffs.
