While leaving some things to be desired, DISCLOSURE DAY as an experience is entertaining & thought provoking enough to make a good night at the movies & inspire some interesting discussions. Not a bullseye, but Spielberg doesn't miss. I'm glad I didn't miss it in a theater.
DISCLOSURE DAY is clearly the work of a master but not necessarily one of his masterpieces. It opens strong, imbued with a grand yet personal sense of wonder & intrigue. It plods along a bit with stop/starts in tension, sagging a tad between the final acts, but ends strong.
There is some magic in it, but some of the CG & special effects fall short of current expectations. The actors all deliver, especially Emily Blunt, who brought exceptional charm & grounded humanity as a supernaturally gifted weather girl turned extraterrestrial ambassador.
@BootsRiley The myth that effort & self-promotion is somehow gauche or uncool has long been slain, yet insecure folks still insist on propping up its rotting corpse like some Weekend at Bernie's parade for their fragile egos. Pay no mind to the mindless, & never take to heart the heartless.
@adamhlavac Doing God's work as usual!
Do you know if Nolan applies a uniform crop to the same portion of the larger flat frame, or does the crop shift up and down from shot to shot, to accommodate what might be the most optimal framing in scope?
1 of the most thoroughly entertaining films of all time. Bona fide classic. Holds up even better today than on its initial release. Romantic, dangerous, swashbuckling triumph! Old-fashioned adventure through the lens of peak 90's new-school action. Imitated but never duplicated.
Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves > every other Robin Hood movie and it’s not even close.
Disney’s cartoon included. Costner’s mullet + Azeem’s compass + that ridiculous final fight = untouchable.
🎬🎥 Robin Hood: Prince Of Thieves. ♥️🔥
Some will critique Costner's accent in this. Bollocks! They supplant the story with American values & it totally works.
The Costner/Freeman buddy action chemistry, Slater & the great supporting cast, iconic Rickman, cinematography, production design, music, costumes, stunts 🤌
@WhoDey5688@JackKennedy Funny I was just thinking independently of this thread that Chris Farley would probably have an Oscar by now if he hadn't passed. Never got the chance and not a stand-up though, so I get why you said this.
@JosephKahn It takes away opportunities from people who want and need more screen time to develop their reels. Indies often have under-5 day players deliver lines off screen, downgrading them to featured extras because their budgets can't afford to pay the SAG minimums.
HORIZON: CHAPTER 1 was phenomenal. Still eagerly awaiting #2.
THE RIP rips, but I wouldn't say it stands above other instant classics from this year. OBSESSION, BACKROOMS, SEND HELP, POWER BALLAD, PROJECT HAIL MARY, IS GOD IS, THE DRAMA, & BONE TEMPLE didn't move his needle?
In a new op-ed for Sight and Sound, Quentin Tarantino says modern cinema often inspires “contempt” in him and that he would “rather read a book” than watch most new movies.
He made exceptions for The Rip and Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1 and Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 2, which he praised as great.
DISCLOSURE DAY is shot using anamorphic lenses with a 2.39:1 ratio. There won't be an expanded aspect ratio in IMAX theaters. But, you'll still benefit from the screen size and sound.
It'll be letterboxed in 1.90 and 1.85 auditoriums, but it will fill an entire 2.39 screen. Dolby Cinemas will project the film in 4K with Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos.
Also available in standard 70mm at select locations!
