Ops Normal Volume 2 is really taking shape. The chapters covering the deployment of the 3 Regt AAC Battlegroup to Iraq do, however, have significant omissions. Not a single contribution from any ground crew personnel deployed on FARP operations. Please contact us to rectify this.
A new artwork has appeared on Ecclesall Road overnight (it was still wet)! It looks very much like the work of @bubba2000art 👀 After his recent hugely successful “Home-coming” show, has Bubba returned to the streets of #Sheffield to work his magic?! I love it 🤩 @streetartsheff
@sommecourt Thanks Paul. He was originally Hertfordshire Regiment and came from St Albans. It’s the surname that really intrigues me - and the thought of the RSM trying to pronounce it!
Private Edwin Charles Xerxes of 11th Sussex on the memorial at Tyne Cot. Not a common Sussex name but before I go down all kinds of rabbit holes to find out, does anyone know his story?
@GerMilHistory I recently found a toy car made for nursery age children on his headstone. Having led school groups of his age there for years, not once have they tried to infantilize Rifleman Strudwick like this. Sadly it’s poppy bedecked adults who love their performative remembrancing.
@BattlefieldBen Remember that the committee for the WW1 commemoration was made up of more novelists than historians. Says everything you need to know about how military history is treated in the UK.
Steven Seagull, my trusty emotional support gull is on hand as we set off on the first tour of the new academic year. Off to Ypres for @AngliaTours with the staff and students of @Greshams_School. Always a pleasure to meet up with them again!
Chris Kolonko-Weet on his work investigating anti-invasion defences and the Home Forces who would have largely operated them in WW2.
In doing so he reminds us,
1. Quality historical writing can be digital first &
2. Good researchers deserve support.

A fantastic day at the office - after a morning lecture by Don Miller, we hopped across to IWM Duxford for a visit to the American Air Museum. We capped off a wonderful day watching a Spitfire and an Me 109 duel overhead.

I'm going to produce a video on Market Garden which will include all that I learned about Market Garden in the past 14 years. Don't know when it will be finished, but it will be an ongoing project in the background. (End of message. 😊)
