@mhudack I think this is the counter point to the “eu regulation means there is no European Google” - if you put in a mechanism for regulation it will regulate, and opinions will differ wildly on which pieces of regulation are good/bad (phthalates are far more tightly regulated in the EU)
@dhh Out of interest, how often does your definition of beautiful code differ from someone else? Don't get me wrong, I too love things that I find beautiful, but I also find some things ugly that others find beautiful.
@rbates I live in the UK, which means that half the year we are on UTC (GMT) and half the year we are on British Summer Time (BST), which is a great way to get production bugs when the clocks move UTC+1 once a year.
As a result, I set time in my specs to be a date which is within BST.
@sarthakgh In the UK we banned single use plastic bags a few years earlier, and I can honestly say it's taken me 5+ years to (almost always) remember to bring a few bags with me to the shop. Give it time.

It doesn't actually have to be that cold before you start to see excess strain on your cardiovascular system, especially if you're old.
As Rishi says, 30mph is a good British speed in that it embodies the good old fashioned British sense of fair play and healthy competition. Maybe the car will come out on top or maybe the cycling child will. At 20mph the child will usually live, which seems unfair on the car. 🇬🇧
@mitchfriedman5 It’s a Victorian thing I think. Every now and again the politicians discuss getting rid of leaseholds. Some flats are “shared freehold” but this can come with its own problems.
Stayed in an @Airbnb with my wife, missed the part where host wanted the beds stripped (1. Wat? 2. Not on the “house rules”, hidden in an email). We received a bad review and a charge for an additional €15 euros cleaning fee. Absurd. Better off in a hotel.
@danfascia Yeah, maybe get them switched out? Mine are totally fine (2014 p6). Replaced the blocks once a few years ago, but still on factory provided levers, callipers and rims.
All this noise in my feed about "Chat GPT is going to make software developers redundant in 12 months!" - I can't even get it to refactor a slightly messy ruby class (plain old ruby object) correctly. Junior dev level stuff. And I say that as a big fan of copilot.
@awilkinson We get 300Mbit down, 70 up and sub 50ms ping in London on a 5G router, more than enough for anything but the most extreme use case with no cables in sight, and at £40 a month. Starlink doesn't make much sense against that.
