Travelled with @TfL using @GooglePay earlier in week. @GooglePay was setup using a now expired @LloydsBank card. Added new card to @TfL and journey history was there - went back after removing my old card that @TfL flagged as expired to find my journey history missing!! Help pls!
Been a while but it's great to finally be back in Southampton for the "annual" (thanks covid) @OrdnanceSurvey Research Workshop! Looking forward to presenting my recent PhD work tomorrow on improving privacy in CV analysis and ethics in geospatial research.
@GeospatialNCL
I've missed a few days of the #30DayMapChallenge, so I've decided to quickly combine a few. Here's a bad map (#Day10), emphasising why scale (#Day12) is appropriate, showing two red (#Day11) points 5 mins (#Day13) walk apart, with OpenStreetMap (#Day8) background mapping.
A little late to the party, but this weekend I thought I'd try and do a few of the #30DayMapChallenge challenges!
First up is #Day1 where I've mapped Emergency #Points on the River Ouse in York, taking advantage of some of the #OpenData made available by @CityofYork.
Our calculations have discovered the three 'norths' will combine for the first time in history this weekπ§
True north, magnetic north and grid north will combine at a single point - starting at Langton Matravers, a village just west of Swanage #3Norths
@ScaredyCat@p0welly@cybergibbons@camillahmturner Ah, yes, that looks familiar! Think I must've read that work when it was first published. Some great analysis.. just a shame W3Ws doesn't open themselves up to allow some proper scrutiny!
@foodielondoner @what3words@DCMS Agreed. There's options such as OS Locate which will give you a grid reference too. I'm also of the opinion it's wrong to be basically offering free advertising to a commercial company from a government department, and that it's distasteful in this time of national mourning.
Some of you may be aware that I'm not a massive fan of @what3words, and rightly question why that is. One of the reasons is that it's far too easy to share the wrong location! Of the locations @DCMS have shared in their YouTube queue tracker, 4 out of 10 of them have been wrong.
I just want to point out that this is not the fault of staff working furiously to control the longest queue in England.
This is happening entirely because What3Words is error-prone by design. Anyone can and will make these mistakes when communicating w3w addresses verbally
The first location they shared was for SAME.VALVE.GRID. 10 mins later this was updated to SAME.VALUE.GRIT. Those take you to California and Uxbridge.
Meanwhile, they shared the correct location on here, which was SAME.VALVE.GRIT.
Presumably it's being passed on verbally.
It was great to have the opportunity to present at the @RGS_IBG Annual International Conference this afternoon, exploring practical ethics and privacy improvement methods within computer vision analysis in the geospatial domain! @GIScience_RGS#ethics#privacy
Exciting to have been unexpectedly longlisted in the National Societies and Volunteering Awards for the collaboration between Newcastle & Durham @SSAGO_UK clubs to put on Viking Rally back in November!

@AvidDabbler Having started my GIS journey with the @GeospatialNCL GIS BSc, I'm going to mix things up and say GIS could be either GISystems or GIScience. GISci being more the data processing side of things, potentially using a GISys, but Geospatial encompasses the survey/data collection too
