No politician, regardless of party should be subject to abuse
When people normalise that and also talk about politics being broken you know they are hypocrites and part of the problem
Real change means tackling disadvantage head on. Replacing our deeply regressive council tax system is the kind of big, bold reform that would genuinely improve lives in northern towns like Hartlepool, putting more money back into the pockets of the people who need it most.
Without minimising the dire results for Labour, it’s extraordinary how chipper the Tories are.
They’ve lost 500 seats from a low watermark, lost major councils to Lib Dems and Reform, show no signs of recovery in the esp LD areas they need to win.
Labour lost *every single seat* on Kirkless, where the party holds 4/5 MPs.
We are seeing some of the most fragmented results in councils that combine a white working class vote with a large ethnic minority population - e.g. with Mill Towns like Kirkless/Burnley.
@LukeTryl@stephennaylor The Tory wipeout is interesting. Has perhaps been coming for a couple of years as they seemed to have lost most of their recent activists to Reform, but I expected them to cling on in a couple of wards.
@jessicaelgot True. In Calderdale where I was a councillor, the conservatives were the main opposition to Labour. They now have no seats, and as far as i can see, have lost most of their activists to Reform.
This isn’t altogether surprising and suggests Matt Goodwin was talking off the top of his head. The only election-loser I can recall who displays comparable gracelessness is George Galloway.
@NJ_Timothy So let me understand. The conservatives would ban Muslims from performing any act of worship in a public place. Would this also apply to Hindus? Jews?
On the contrary, this war underlines the stupidity and irresponsibility of the Tory party and Farage's policy of putting Trump's interests before the interests of this country

Every single time. Car domination makes city centres poorer not more prosperous. The data is very consistent. You don’t necessarily need to or should ban them, but you do need to put people first in all or nearly all streets.
Introduced in 2018 and expanded to all roads by 2020, Bilbao was the first European city of 300,000+ to adopt a universal 30 km/h speed limit. Several years on, the results suggest it has delivered broad benefits on safety, public health, travel efficiency, and quality of life.🧵
Ms Truss sadly blocked me when I expressed scepticism about her economic record but I think it reasonable to call her a deluded conspiracy theorist who is essentially anti-British.
Didn't need to be in Cabinet to know how out of her depth Braverman was as Home Sec. As Dep Chairman of Home Affairs Select Comm I saw how dysfunctional she let the Home Office become week in week out. The graceless way she now blames colleagues who covered for her is shameful
