Kocham tę kobietę bardziej niż 20 lat temu!

I kiedy wieczorem opowiada mi o rzeczach, które kompletnie mnie nie interesują, słucham jej z przyjemnością, której nie tłumaczy żaden poradnik.

Bo przez te 20 lat zrozumiałem coś, co przeczy wszystkiemu, co wciskają nam media.

Wspólne pasje to nie budulec związku. To dekoracja. Ludzie po latach idą różnymi drogami, w różnym tempie i to nie jest awaria. Tak wygląda życie.

Prawdziwy budulec jest inny. Chcesz dla drugiej osoby lepiej niż dla siebie. Jej potrzeby stawiasz nad swoje. Wolisz dawać, niż brać. Jeśli tego nie ma, nie uratują was nawet identyczne playlisty.

Więc jeśli twoja druga połówka to twoje przeciwieństwo, przestań to naprawiać. Może właśnie tam mieszka wasz sekret.

Nie musicie kochać tych samych rzeczy.
Wystarczą te same wartości, ten sam kierunek, szacunek do różnic i troska o drugą połowę większa niż o siebie.

I na koniec coś, co zrozumiałem dopiero niedawno...

Przez 20 lat moja żona każdego dnia miała powody, żeby wybrać inaczej. Innego człowieka, inne życie, inny świat; bliższy jej gór niż mojego betonu.
Mimo to każdego dnia wybierała to samo... mnie.

Miłość to nie jest coś, co się czuje. To coś, co się codziennie wybiera.
Od 21 lat jestem czyimś wyborem i jestem z tego naprawdę dumny...

I got to Fort Campbell from EOD School with less than a month until I deployed for the surge in Afghanistan.

I was in decent shape, but I wasn’t a great runner. I had really let my cardio slip during my time as a student. I was out running one morning during PT and feeling sorry for myself, as most young privates do.

Just then, a guy ran past me. He had to be running a sub 7 minute mile pace. As he ran past he said, “keep pushing.”

He was missing his leg.

He was still in the Army, older than me, and out running me.

It motivated the shit out of me.

That was over 16 years ago. I think that was the moment when I really stopped feeling sorry for myself and realized that you are the master of your own fate.

You can either take charge of the world around you or let the world take charge of you.

Marj Graves did a brave thing in 1972, by volunteering to be a combat nurse during the War. Marj was witness to the horrors of war. With two weeks left in her deployment, Marj was assigned to identify the remains of over 30 US soldiers who were killed in a helicopter crash.

It was a traumatizing assignment and, like so many vets of her time and the present she took the bad things she experienced and packed them away. Marj returned home, but the battle within herself continued and progressively got worse.

For decades, Marj maintained all the hallmarks of a successful and happy life. In reality, she was struggling. For years she saw counseling but never told the story of her most traumatic experience identify those soldiers' remains.

In 2005, over 30 years after coming home, Marj nearly become another casualty of war. She tried to take her own life.

Only after her attempt did she regain a will to live. And her recovery included writing and talking about her experiences in war and her feelings about it. At this time, Marj threw herself into speaking openly about what she experienced as a combat nurse. In quick order, Graves began speaking publicly about the war she was fighting physically and mentally.

Those of us bitterly opposed to communism fall into two different groups.

A) Those who argue that it must be abandoned because it has show us that it doesn’t work.

B) Those of us that are so bitterly opposed to collectivism applied to dissenting individuals that we are relieved that it *cannot* work. A happy accident. Those who don’t care if it *could* be made to work: we’d continue to fight it. Working or not working is irrelevant. It’s just bad. Period. The end.

If Communism could actually be shown to deliver stable high levels of growth and innovation, broadly distributed, with low inequality,
I believe I would still fight it to my dying breath.

My opposition to communism has little to nothing to do with the fact that it doesn’t work as an economic system. So, it’s merely a relief that it doesn’t work. A convenience for its opposition.

Communism and collectivism are intrinsically soul killing for people who are hyper-individualistic . So let’s stop hiding behind the fact that they don’t work as economic or governance systems.

Some of us who aren’t the biggest fans of naked capitalism red of tooth and claw, hate communism not because we think capitalism is intrinsically fair. It isn’t. We oppose it because communism hunts the individual.

For us, It’s not communism vs capitalism. That is a businessman’s argument. Instead, it’s communism vs individualism for me. Show me a system that fights harder to let a dissenting individual thrive more than brutal market capitalism (which also barely works), and I am all ears.

Not everything is a market after all.

For six years I told everyone that CLT was not going to enter the lower-grade testing market.

Heads of school would often say to us, “We love the CLT concept, but our parents will lose their minds if we move away from the College Board, National Merit, or AP. But nobody cares which test we use in the lower grades.”

Our response was always the same: lower-grade testing is not the lever that changes education. But…if you change the college entrance exam, if you establish a new gold standard for college admission, the upstream and downstream consequences are enormous. You change what schools teach, what students read, what families value, and ultimately what education is for.

Then, after six years of saying no, a head of school in Texas insisted that I join her for a Zoom meeting. She shared her screen and took me to the NWEA MAPS website.

I could hardly believe what I was seeing. The organization was openly promoting gender ideology for students as young as kindergarten.

Right there on the call, I told her, “Okay. We’re going to do it. We will create something worthy of your students.”

And we did.

Today, CLT’s lower-grade assessments are the fastest-growing standardized tests among elementary schools. What we put in front of students matters, if you want them to love truth, goodness, and beauty, they need to be exposed to it, especially on tests that their young minds perceive as important.

There's a conversation in the Bible where Satan admits there are some people he can't touch... and almost nobody talks about it.
Most people read the book of Job and focus on everything he lost. But I was reading Job 1, and God showed me something that completely shifted my perspective. Before Job's wealth, before the attacks, before the tragedy... God first described Job's character. The Bible says Job was "blameless and upright; he feared God and shunned evil." That wasn't just an introduction it was Heaven's testimony about him before anything else happened.

Then the scene changes from earth to heaven. The angels present themselves before the Lord, and Satan shows up. God asks him, "Where have you come from?" Satan replies that he has been roaming throughout the earth, going back and forth. In other words, he was searching. Then God asks Satan one question: "Have you considered my servant Job?" What Satan says next stopped me in my tracks. Satan replies, "Have You not put a hedge around him, his household, and everything he has?" Think about that. The enemy himself acknowledged that there was a boundary around Job that he could not cross without God's permission.

What qualified Job for that kind of covering? It wasn't his money. It wasn't his influence. It wasn't his success. The Bible says he was blameless, upright, feared God, and shunned evil. Before Heaven celebrated his blessings, Heaven testified about his character.
I wonder how many of us spend more time praying for God's protection than pursuing the kind of life that attracts His covering. Job reminds us that reverence for God, integrity, and obedience matter. Character isn't just about reputation it has spiritual consequences.

Friends, it is a mistake to think of good and evil with a Star Wars mentality: a battle between coequal forces where we don’t know who carries the day.

That is not biblical.

The Bible does not hold the world as a place of endless, unresolved conflict between coequal forces. Whatever mayhem we see is ultimately the result of the abused freedom of creatures—creatures that remain under the purview of God, acting only with his permission.

We have confidence in what the good God is about; he uses even dysfunction to cultivate and order all things to the good.

Todd Rose graduated from high school, sort of, with a GPA of 0.9. Somehow, he went out to become a professor at Harvard, and today, he runs the most consequential think tank in America. Populace specializes in private opinion polling, and their work today is more important than ever. Why? Because the extent to which we’re being manipulated online is worse than you think. Much, much worse. Hundreds of millions of bots, (literally) have infected every social platform, and led to a long list of “collective illusions” that have reinforced to a “manufactured consensus” around myriad issues that are tearing us apart. In short, we’ve been turned against one another, by an enemy that’s determined to see our county collapse from the inside out.

According to Todd, the most serious, manufactured consensuses plaguing Americans revolve around societal values, political polarization, and interpersonal trust. For instance, Americans widely believe that society fundamentally prioritizes wealth, status, luxury, and fame. But in private polling, individual Americans overwhelmingly rank personal fulfillment, being a good parent, character, and doing work with a positive impact at the top of their personal values. Because people chase what they think others value, they pursue hollow benchmarks of fame and money, inadvertently teaching their children to do the same.

Likewise, the overwhelming public consensus suggests that Americans are fiercely divided over cultural, institutional, and political issues. But data from Populace (and I mean, LOTS of data) reveals that roughly 90% of Americans actually agree on the vast majority of controversial issues. Our brains use a deeply flawed shortcut that assumes the loudest voices are the majority. Because a tiny fraction of extreme users dominates most social media platforms, and because foreign bot armies, (mostly from China,) have weaponized these divides to an unprecedented level, we are awash in false consensuses. Which leads us to self-silence out of fear.

According to Todd, the largest collective illusion in society today concerns mutual trustworthiness. In truth, the vast majority of Americans privately believe that they are trustworthy and value integrity. However, they simultaneously believe that most other Americans are dishonest and do not value trust at all. This manufactured mismatch causes people to treat their neighbors with a level of suspicion that oftentimes, isn’t warranted. It also leads people to fall in line with all sorts agendas that are not in fact, nearly as popular as they assume them to be. Defund the Police, for instance, or Black Lives Matter, (no kidding), or the current panic around data centers, or the resistance to nuclear power, or much of the public pressure around cancel culture, DEI, ESG, and lots of other issues that never really had the support that people thought. Bottom line, school boards, corporations, and politicians implement policies that almost nobody actually wants, driven entirely by the fear of opposing a false majority that doesn’t really exist.

For me, Todd’s research does two things. It encourages tolerance and offers hope, because it proves we’re not really as divided as we seem. But it also encourages brutal honesty, even if it means getting thrown out of your own club. I’d be curious to know what it inspires in you.
