@ArielTroster@OttawaAlliance There is, sadly, a precedent for the city to allow the destruction of existing affordable low-rise housing to make way for a new expensive tower bock parking lot.
It seems like the city says 'yes' to the wrong things a lot.
@ABetterOttawa The city has a knack for building public transit change points in places without eyes on the street, which make them feel unsafe. It is nice to hear more about why these choices were made.
@TalktoARYZE @beatoni12 Do we forget that 'affordable' needs to be indexed to a person's earnings? It isn't just 'affordable' = 'less expensive' as the new luxury units'.
@siobhanwanders Whenever I get to these barren transfer point, I wonder why the city creates sites where I imagine someone getting murdered. No shops or cafes, not near streets, literally no possibility of the 'eyes on the street' effect. Just a button you can push after being stabbed.
Dear #Ottawa, Can the LRT run without the wheels scrapping the track and becoming square blocks? It seems like a reasonable task compared to what some have managed before.
@siobhanwanders This has go to do with the type of vehicle that people drive these days. Yesterday I was passed on Bank street by a mini cooper and realized that it it was not a terrifying experience as I was not being dwarfed by a huge SUV or truck.
@bikeviewca@Ottawa_Tourism Airport had a direct bus downtown- in about 30 mins- cheap and simple. Now, switch at Hurdman to LRT that may work that day or not. Why no parallel service? Cities should have proper transpo networks. Ott funnels to a diff system, breaking up journeys and adds to travel times.
@DerrickSimpson_ No action would be preferable than a bad plan. Can we not come up with something that works for residents and the city before developers? Transit down bank mess already, especially on game days. Imagine if we add an additional stadium.
@DerrickSimpson_ I go to Lansdowne to decompress, meet friends and attend the market/activities. Adding a high concentration of expensive housing and extra stadium will limit space and compromise public enjoyment/ Transit as an afterthought makes it harder to access for all.
@RpMpeasoup @ABetterOttawa It is loud, dirty, and really repels pedestrian life. Funny how they can't stop building tower condos in places where you wouldn't really want to spend any time on a terrace or in a shop.
@RpMpeasoup @ABetterOttawa I was just about the mention this. I used to take the bus here (still do on occasion) and don't always feel safe standing watching massive trailers, some full of stacked logs turn onto Rideau and then turn off a few blocks over.
@siobhanwanders I am always surprised at the ones that are waving a hand, trying to urge you to 'go already', before they have fully stopped the vehicle.
