Long ass breakdown of the characters, motifs, lore and historical references in New Gods: Yang Jian scene by scene 🧵
I strongly strongly strongly recommend seeing it at the cinema rn, it's well worth the HD experience just for the mindblowing visuals alone.
@awkotacogf13@Squ15 worldskate, the federation that governs roller skating, oversees only summer sports. It has no association with figure skating or any other winter sports.
@arealmermaid2@kiragu_maina_@Eng_china5 Optics matters. Your intent might be neutral, but you added a comparison that changes the tone.
You could’ve said “She looks very young”, “She has a youthful appearance” etc.
It’s got nothing to do with culture, it’s just the way English and connotations works.
@arealmermaid2@kiragu_maina_@Eng_china5 By saying she’s not a woman is reductive and infantilizing, and undermines her skill and experience as a full grown adult. Hope that helps.
@Lian1572053@Gertywood5@fs_gossips That’s what I said. It wasn’t the tiger-parenting that imbued the discipline in her. She already had it. Which only made high-intensity training not work in her favor.
@Gertywood5@fs_gossips Thing is, she’s already self-motivated by nature. That level of rigor in her earlier training was only a detriment to her. If she were allowed to train on her own terms from the beginning, she’s be even more formidable.

@alvinfoo 2 years ago she suffered a severe hip injury at X Games. She couldn't even walk, but wrote "Pain is temporary" on her hand going into her run. She came away with gold. That same year, Su Yiming had withdrawn from X Games with a sprained ankle.
This is what action sports demands:
