Congratulations, Andrew. Incredible accomplishment so far. I’m curious for your insights on where the continued innovation opportunity is to lower costs and increase competitiveness with China? Do you see this as principally a volume or manufacture scale problem, or something else?
@brandon_galang I like this post. Good points.
Real question. Is it some kind of flex or proof the post wasn’t written by AI to ignore common grammar rules? What is up with that?
@zeigyte Six interviews and an unpaid assignment for $70k is a lot to ask. When you push back with founders, which do they budge on first, the budget or the process?
@jasonlk How do you test for it? Having them pitch the product back to you after one demo seems like it'd show pretty fast whether they were curious enough to dig in.
This is the fourth time our "No On Prop 1" signs have been harassed. This time, they were completely stolen. I caught this 4 minutes after it happened. Tried to find this person in the neighborhood. We were completely gone, so they either live close or I just missed them. Added to the police report
There's a big difference in outcomes between a demanding leader and a leader that provides clarity and support for their high expectations.
The demanding leader wants excellence and doesn't know the path. They compensate with pressure and leverage. They blame, coerce, judge, and discard.
The clear leader embraces their responsibility to precisely direct subordinates to their goals. Misses reflect on them.
Total clarity isn't always possible, but be careful about compensating for that lack of clarity with pressure. Absorb that pressure and, as a good leader, convert it into clarity.
The demanding leader recognizes a bottleneck but instead of precisely understanding its root cause to provide a precise solution, they will look for quick fixes. Hiring aggressively to fix bottlenecks that have more to do with communication, morale, and process is a common example. People show up to be a help and find that they are all being shoved through a bottleneck they have no control over and the leader can't see. What's that leader's solution, more pressure to get through the bottleneck!
This is me. I'm a demanding leader in recovery.
The clear leader thinks from first principles and recurring root cause analysis loops. They see people failure as downstream of their failure; recruiting, hiring, onboarding, training, and leadership. Their organizations are marvelously impressive. Through immense work they make business look effortless. They are unrelentingly accountable to themselves and their team.
I was blessed to spend some time this week with a particularly standout clear leader and it was incredibly inspiring.
@mardehaym “Claude, bake all this nonsense in. Imma go to bed.”
“Oh, and make no mistake. You have 1000 years of experience. Night.”
🤣
Yes I know this is making his point. It’s funny. You can just turn the roast into the prompt.
Keep roasting dev-boys.
