More Lanes are (Still) a Bad Thing https://t.co/lR77YMVLjR via @YouTube
I really enjoy how clear this video makes the case to reduce traffic you need to develop and increase alternative transportation.

It looks like Photo Enforcement in Winnipeg might soon undergo a significant review. I covered this program as a reporter for several years... and have likely inspected the data more closely than anyone. 1/
Here are my takeaways. #wpgpoli https://t.co/EyhQFXlmXM #mbpoli#wpgpoli
From Jan 25/20-Aug 5/23 there were 94,694 excess deaths in Canada.
The week ending Aug 5/23 there were 373 untimely deaths in the fastest reporting provinces--likely 746 deaths in Canada. Excess deaths were nearing peak of BA.1 wave.
By Dec, we will likely reach 100K deaths...
@kyle_minogue@zimmy_brian Q doc is a great service. Quick dr appointments from MB doctors online. I would encourage anyone that can’t get in to see someone to go to Qdoc.
@mmarginet @BikeWinnipeg In Victoria BC most streets are 30-40km/hr. It’s amazing the amount of shared AT and driving spaces there are. I feel safer as a driver at those reduced speeds too.
@Themdragons@ScottBilleck And how many people don’t go because they lack insurance coverage or the money to pay up front. I get their system may seem nice and flashy but it is not one that supports an equitable society. Our system is overburdened because of the lack of investments in maintaining staff.
Agreed! Investing in current infrastructure like public transit, bike lanes, pedestrian walkways and ensuring we can adequately repair our current inventory of roads is more sustainable and equitable than widening or creating more roads.
1/ This morning, I made the case to cancel the Chief Peguis Trail and Kenaston Capital Projects and replace them with strategic investments that would raise the value of our lands so that we can reduce the tax burden.
How the CBC was formed from the CRBC, a historic thread!
The Canadian Radio Broadcasting Commission was formed through the Canadian Broadcasting Act on May 26, 1932 by the Conservative government of R.B. Bennett. This new network was based on the CNR radio network.

@gniemo@BikeWinnipeg Prioritizing active transport options, can create more equitable and accessible transportation systems that serve the needs of all members of society, regardless of their mode of transportation. Disregarding minorities does not create equality, people deserve to be represented.
@wpgcyclist The disparity between what is done and what is written is disheartening. The >5 cm for walkways and >3cm for roads just highlights the low priority of bicycle paths and sidewalks compared to roads. In my mind they should be cleared at the same time.
@JaniceLukes@mathieuallard Let's not wait for a report to prove what is already known then. Propose an alternative pilot project to clear snow to pavement on residential sidewalks after any major snowfall. Our communities deserve safe and accessible walkways all winter not just the roads.
@jbrowaty@wpgcyclist Bike paths are crucial for those who rely on bikes as their primary mode of transportation, and they deserve the same priority for snow clearing as roads. Let's prioritize transportation for all members of our community. #SafeTransportationForAll
@jbrowaty@wpgcyclist While it's true that more people drive cars, people without cars still matter. They make up a significant portion of our community and deserve safe and accessible transportation options. Winter cycling may be seen as extreme recreation to some, but for others, it's a necessity.
@JaniceLukes @burkey71 @mathieuallard As @Beardune pointed out it’s that sidewalks have a lower standard of care compared to roads. That needs to change faster than in past years. Better clearing can be accomplished but the city not prioritizing them is a disservice to all people, it pushes all users onto same road.
@CamRegier I was waiting for Sing 2 to come out for free on a streaming service but it seemed to never happen. So we decided to rent it today. It was a great movie to watch with the kids.
