“Repetition is the mother of all skill”
True. BUT..
The types of reps, block vs variable or level of specificity with those reps determine how quickly and effectively we arrive at the goal of acquiring and transferring a skill.
Not all reps are created equal…
The best teachers I’ve been around know when to speak & when to allow players to work through their own problems. Just because you know the answer, doesn’t mean you should give it.
Time is like a bank account. Except you have no idea how much is in the account.
You spend your time each day with no idea of how much you have left.
Imagine how careful you’d spend money if you never knew how much you had left.
You’d spend $ wisely. Do the same w your time.
Truly intelligent people can explain things in the simplest terms and in a conscience manner..
People who want to sound smart tend to over explain, include big fancy words, and drag on their point when a simple sentence would have sufficed, just a trend I’ve noticed..
Shout put to @byanymeansbball and @tjltraining for creating Mastery Hoops, even their free content helps coaches and players alike to be the best they can at their craft
People want to become a D1 player without first becoming a D1 level player.
People want to be a millionaire without developing the habits and skills to become the millionaire.
Want something? Become the person who deserves it and has the skills and mindset to acquire it..
“Tough, a competitor, a team-first guy”: These are all words that Coach Donahue used to describe freshman George Smith, rising star on @PennMBB: https://t.co/uMi48L5BQx
@samfranklinbbal Definitely but also have to remember just because they can transfer it from the practice to the SSG doesn’t mean it’s transferring but it’s still in their short term memory.
But 100% all about a balance but understand the concept is the biggest key which you got down pat
98% of the “moves” you see in games are not pre determined, planned out, or even conscious
They are reactions to stimulus in the environment (defense)
But people are teaching them the exact opposite way they are used.. no wonder there is a disconnect when it comes to transfer
@blakjordanbreen@Bball_Life767 100% we are going to have to use verbal instructions, but just pointing out let’s not make it plan A and fall back to it so quickly
@samfranklinbbal Point being let’s not resort to this so quickly, not saying we shouldn’t use it, that would be nearly impossible, but how fast we get there and how much it is used is the issue
@samfranklinbbal agreed that’s the start, doesn’t work we need to adapt, BUT we also don’t have to immediately resort to explicitly teaching, we can use audio cues or specific constraints to allow them to try to self organize into what we are looking for..
Then maybe use verbal instructions
@blakjordanbreen@Bball_Life767 Why explain it when I can put them in a game situation and they can see it for themselves.. they will also learn they need to have a variety of option by trying it against a real defender and getting it ripped
