Three Reasons High School S&C positions aren’t entry level:
1. Sheer volume of athletes - both overall and by session
2. Constraints - space, time, resources…your textbook methods are no good here
3. Outside interference - club, “trainers,” Dad + garage
Here I am stressing about not having enough variety in my programs, worrying that athletes will get bored.
Meanwhile, some of the athletes I coach are showing up, not even remembering how to do the warm-up, which we’ve now been doing for 5 weeks 😂

The Wolfpack will play Simeon on 5/31 in the Sectional semi-final. The game will be moved up to 2pm due to Simeon's graduation. The game will be at St. Ignatius.
We have not programmed back squats since the early 2000's. We have won 2 football state championships in 4 years without the back squat. We put a focus on developing a base of bilateral strength using trap bars and front squats while prioritizing single leg strength.
Many people think Strength Coaches are easily replaceable until they find out they aren’t easily replaceable. If you got a good one, compensate them and get them help so they don’t get burned out.
In the high school setting, kids want to load the bar at the expense of technique.
For me, I am constantly preaching that technique comes before load. No matter what
Thats where youll end up seeing true long term progress. Staying patient and taking it slower at the beginning.
@JoeyBergles It’s not what’s best for young athletes, it’s about the money. 15 billion $$ business. If college & professional athletes need an off season Then young growing bodies need one too. Better off when I was a kid. We played multiple sports. There were no sports medicine clinic.
“FL Gulf Coast’s admissions applications increased 27.5% after their Sweet 16 run. Butler’s increased 50% after two Final 4’s. George Mason’s inquiries went up 350% after beating Villanova in 2011. Athletics fills beds & builds new buildings. Dont let anyone tell you otherwise.”
