This is absolutely the right move. Getting embarrassed in a bowl game against BYU would be really hard on the program. Much smarter to avoid playing tough teams so you can keep your brand intact.
Playoffs scenario is very simple. Regardless of what happens in championship games the final 2 teams in the playoffs should be BYU and Alabama. If BYU wins Big 12 put Texas Tech in there. Thats it. End of story. Anything else is wrong and an injustice
Me: BYU deserves to be in the Playoff!
Everyone: Try beating someone first!
Me: BYU has six wins over 7+ win teams. That leads the nation. They also have wins over two currently ranked teams.
Everyone: Well that’s because it’s the Big 12, they all stink.
Me: Really? Because the Big 12 had a winning record in non-conference games against P4 competition. They also have five ranked teams, including 4 in the Top 20.
Everyone: That doesn’t prove anything! Look at their SOS or SOR.
Me: That’s fine. BYU is 6th is SOR, ahead of every two loss team. They also have a higher SOS than Ole Miss, Notre Dame, and Miami.
Everyone: Okay well they got blown out by three scores to Texas Tech!
Me: Your right, that was a tough loss. A lot like Oklahoma losing a neutral site game by 3 scores, Oregon losing at Home by 2 scores, or Alabama losing by two scores to a 5-6 Florida State.
Everyone: 😑 😡 😤
…. Well in a hypothetical game, BYU would lose so case closed.
I love hate, I thrive in chaos and this rivalry is true hatred. The Holy War is as bitter as it gets. This is the best rivalry in college football, I’m convinced @BNKonFOX
the CFP effectively just told us that teams that are not playing this week cannot be adjusted.
no. 11 alabama, at 9-3, walks into the college football playoff over BYU, arizona state & iowa state.
this system is already broken. do away with conference championship games.
