This week, the @AWF_Official is pleased to join African Heads of State, policymakers, conservation leaders, and partners in Gaborone, Botswana, for the inaugural Africa Biodiversity Summit (ABS) organized by the @_AfricanUnion Commission and the @BWGovernment under the theme “Leveraging Biodiversity for Africa’s Prosperity.”
This Summit marks a defining moment for Africa’s biodiversity leadership, a chance to position conservation not as a cost to development, but as a cornerstone of Africa’s economic sovereignty. As a long-standing partner of the African Union, AWF continues to champion African-led solutions that align with Agenda 2063, demonstrating that biodiversity is an engine for shared prosperity, climate resilience, and sustainable growth.
From influencing policy to mobilizing sustainable finance, our participation reinforces one clear message: Africa’s natural wealth must power Africa’s future. The decisions made here in Gaborone will determine how our continent manages, values, and benefits from its biodiversity in the decades ahead.
Join us this week as we take you along the highlights and key moments captured throughout the conference.
