Once inflation has already happened, the higher price level is largely locked in. A president cannot simply order Walmart, Kroger, or farmers to roll prices back to 2020 levels. The only ways prices broadly go back down are:

Deflation (an economy-wide decline in prices), which often comes with recession, falling wages, layoffs, and bankruptcies.

Price controls, where the government forces businesses to charge less. History shows this usually leads to shortages, rationing, and empty shelves rather than lasting lower prices.

We’re not going to survive this level of economic illiteracy on the left and the now the right.

Either these people ate stupid or malicious. To be honest, I’m not even sure which one is worse anymore.

Trump has:

- Removed regulatory barriers to new housing construction.

-Targeted price-fixing and anticompetitive conduct in the food supply chain.

-Reversed appliance and environmental regulations that can increase manufacturing and household costs.

-Pursued greater oil, natural-gas and mineral production.

- Used tariff exemptions and trade negotiations for some products, although his broader tariffs can also raise the prices of imported goods and materials.

The Iran war has driven up oil, gasoline, fertilizer, freight and transportation costs, so ending it could prevent additional increases. But it did not create the grocery prices already baked into the economy, and withdrawing would not magically restore 2020 prices. MacIntyre is deliberately confusing high prices, the current inflation rate, and a new wartime energy shock because “every economic problem is caused by the war I oppose” is politically useful even when it is economically illiterate.
