ASSAB — While watching a local YouTube channel - EriLink, something caught my eye and I had to pause to double-check the details. It was about the cost of living in one of #Eritrea’s coastal cities, Assab.
From the screenshot shown, grocery prices there are shockingly low. Lentils cost just 26 Nakfa per kilo, a 4-liter container of cooking oil is 123 Nakfa, rice is 20 Nakfa per kilo, sugar is 18 Nakfa per kilo, OMO detergent is 60 Nakfa per pack, and milk powder goes for 70 Nakfa per kilo.
What’s striking is that these prices are even lower than what you’d find for the same items in Asmara.

Thank you, Israel 🇮🇱, for doing what no one else managed to do uniting Somali opposition and non-opposition alike. What a New Year’s gift. Make no mistake, this has only strengthened resistance to your agenda. Somalia is not a place for Zionist influence, and any attempt to push it will be firmly rejected.
President Donald Trump has sent a letter to President Isaias Afwerki, on July 30 this week, underlining that he is "reversing the negative, harmful damage of the Biden Administration around the globe".
In his message that also expresses appreciation for President Isaias' letter of Congratulations of November last year, President Trump referred to his Administration's readiness to re-establish a respectful and productive national relationship between the US and Eritrea "based on honesty, respect, and opportunities to improve peace and prosperity across the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea".
As it will be recalled, President Isaias had sent a warm message of Congratulations to President Trump in November last year on his "historic comeback and election as the 47th President of the United States of America...at a very crucial time when global peace is of paramount importance more than ever before".
President Isaias had at the time expressed his hopes that President Trump's "election will open a new chapter of fruitful and constructive ties of cooperation between Eritrea and the US".

#Eritrea: FM Osman Saleh Statement at NAM Ministerial Meeting; 23rd Sept. 2024, New York
*The human trajedy in Palestine is a glaring testimony to the flaws of the so-called "rules-based international order";
*Supporting Palestine's right to choose its path to nationhood is not only an acknowledgement of universal principles but also a step towards lasting peace and stability in the region while guaranteeing security of both Palestinians and Israelis
