@giovanettigolf same here, I wish I had a space/access to a mill. how are you finishing? I found it very challenging to communicate finishes to overseas machine shops. most dont know the different between glass bead and sand blasting, so ive been doing that myself
@giovanettigolf@engineeringolf Yes agreed on the sensitivity study, with the modal sim set up its easy now. tried getting mass away from the ends of the fangs and increasing inner fillet but didnt help a ton. lesson is to try to avoid the tuning fork fangs (last pic confirms sim, tying them together sounds ๐)
@giovanettigolf@engineeringolf yeah very much open to different materials but I really like the satin finish you can get bead blasting stainless, downside is the weight. I'm optimizing to be able to use a laser cut sheet metal weight plate (cheap/ez) with one common machined body
I rarely get to show actual club design in public, so Iโm stoked to share this one.
@tmarentette_ is designing a modular putter, and ran into sound problems.
So, he set up a modal simulation. This shows how the club vibrates, and at what frequency. Low frequencies (~500hz in this case) yield bad sound in golf.
The solution will be to add stiffness (ribs, geometry, or curvature) to increase the frequency. Will update when the next iterations are improved!
@engineeringolf do you have experience with putter sound simulations? I have been designing my own putter for the past year and have been struggling with getting the sound right. Currently its too high pitched/pingy. Tried foam, no change. Dynamat helped but still not ideal
@engineeringolf@KennethCassel 3/n so now im trying to figure out how to optimize the body design for sound so that I can have one CNC machined body that can be used for any length putter. weight can be varied by material and weight plate shape/thickness. Sole plate can be Al or SS. (~80-100g of adjustability)
@engineeringolf 3/n so that I could experiment with weight distribution, face inserts etc without having to get more putters machined (body stays the same). the weight plates were designed to be sheet metal because they are easy to make domestically (shoutout rmfg @KennethCassel)
@im_chadsmith@CalebChamberla6@calebc The #1 OSH cut is my first choice is because of the DFM sim tool/reliability. I know when I submit an order it is going to be production ready. Itโs like having a DFM engineer on standby with the instant feedback. Competing on $ alone would be tough
