Welcome Marcus Metz
Metz is a 6’2 " lefty out of Central Arizona, where he was a First-Team JUCO All-American. Metz is originally from Vista, California.
I do not have it confirmed exactly how he classifies his pitches, but it looks like a 2-seam with good tail in the lower 90s, and a change to pair the left-turn shapes. Then, looks like the “Bread & Butter” is the sweeper! He also shows a “smaller” slider pitch that he uses to steal strikes, especially to the backdoor, then he can add depth and give it a curveball shape. The curveball & sweeper work well to the backfoot of righties, very Harrison Bodendorf(ish), which, combined with his left-turning pitches, should allow him to be ambidextrous in his splits.
None of that is confirmed, so when/if I get that nailed down, I’ll report back.
Metz went 10-3 with a 2.33 ERA, 106 strikeouts in 77.1 innings this past season, and held opponents to just one home run all season. WOW!
Over two years at Central Arizona, Metz compiled an 11-3 record, 2.95 ERA, and 144 strikeouts in 110 innings, showcasing swing-and-miss stuff with an impressive 11.78 K/9 rate.
Dude is a proven winner and a strikeout pitcher, super excited to have him in the program.
