I just don’t understand how each state hasn’t adopted a shot clock already. The shot clock is the ultimate player development tool at the grassroots/high school. The 24-second FIBA clock that is used at the lowest levels of basketball around the world is the reason players like Jokić and Dončić are such incredible decision-makers. They played with a shot clock since they were in basketball diapers.
9 ways that coaches can provide energy to their team.

5. Fill their cups
6. Active listening.
7. Optimistic Tone
8. Composed Body language
9. Bring what your team needs.
There is no course to teach these skills just be authentic.
In my 15th year as a Basketball Coach, I had a huge realization.
I was spending more time on mental performance than Xs & Os. My athletes needed it more.
I leaned into it & the results were better teams & healthier players.
Here are 4 Steps I use to teach mental skills.
👇
When athletes struggle with negative body language it's a powerful indicator of negative Self-talk.
It's also an opportunity for a coach to build skills for their athletes.
The more a coach focuses on helping athletes understand the power of their Self-talk the better.
One of the most difficult parts of coaching is having to make cuts, it is even harder on athletes.
I am a firm believer that cuts should be made face to face & not on a list etc.
It makes it much harder for the coach but softens the blow for the athlete.
How do you make cuts?
ON-BALL DEFENSE:
You must teach players to be hungry for the ball. If they are not plotting to get the ball or making life HARD for the ballhandler, they are NOT playing DEFENSE. Days of defenders just shuffling along with ball handlers & calling it defense are over. #DrDefense
"Be more concerned with your character than with your reputation, because your character is what you really are, while your reputation is merely what others think you are.”- John Wooden
Great advice from Coach Wooden.
