@muhasaba_needer just got blasted by a full on whoosh of (appropriately) repressed but load-bearing memories from my early adolescence & am now retching. otoh, so many questions now answered about why I am the way I am SO
@slumpy_sp@spiccarella@Nate_Rgrs conveniently breezed past the part where despite my unfortunate vocation - electrician - I dare still to read books. You’re just salty he called you out
@havethelastward@hecubian_devil “Anarchism is an attempt to cleanse liberalism of the police. But just as pure oxygen is impossible to breathe, so liberalism without the police principle means the death of society. Being a shadow-caricature of liberalism, anarchism as a whole has shared its fate.”
@starlighthoax@ZetaYuz@shayjazi w/o being too sarcastic about all this, that’s maybe the funniest answer possible! In LA if you’re in sanitation then you’re a Teamster and the apprenticeships are *hotly* contested. If you snag one it then takes 3-4 *years* (something like 4,000 on the job hrs) + class + test
@Sheetrockdust Incredible that this is the specific plot dynamic of Stan Robinson’s “Science in the Capitol” trilogy published some 22 years ago. Did not seem like a fun ride…
not the point but it is bleakly funny to imagine trying to persuade an early 20th c. Anglo-American that Greeks are white & them hitting you double-barrel with absolutely heinous slurs
It might seem hypocritical that Variety praises Moana for respecting Polynesian culture while attacking you for wanting Nolan’s Odyssey to respect Greek culture. But there’s actually a consistent moral through-line: They just hate White people.
@bigsnugga that old saw: “LA people are 10 degrees left of center on a good day & 10 degrees right of center if they feel uncomfortable for any reason while walking their dogs”
Locals don’t think LA is evil, only transplants think LA is evil. Because they come here and they do evil shit, because they’re strivers, and then they’re like “it wasn’t me, it was the Santa Ana Winds”
