The unholy alliance between the Church and the political class is one of the diseases that need immediate cure in this country.

The church needs to live within its means and only build or buy what the members can afford, as dependance on politicians to finance church projects is what has led us to the deconsecration of the alter. Church ministers, priests and bishops have become so reliant on politicians, to a point where they can’t hold a harambee without them. They give the area MCA, MP and aspiring political leaders a lot of pressure to participate and give substantive amounts of money, and never care about their reputation and integrity as long as they are bringing money. In return, the politicians use those events to campaign for themselves and to push whichever political agenda they may have.

Now, in the rural areas, most churches hold only one service. When the church building become congested, they call for a harambee to buy another piece of land, then other harambees to build a church. It is the reason we have these unending harambees that have become politicians playground. Instead of splitting and building another church, why not introduce another service? If you were holding a service from 10am-1pm, hold one from 9-11am and another from 11:30-1:30pm. Just maximize on the space you have and that will save you from putting up a whole new church building.

But if this idea seems so urban and you opt to build another church elsewhere, build what your members and your partners can afford. Our grandparents built schools and churches using harambees, and they managed to do so without over-reliance on politicians especially for the churches.

Now, will this be a church service or a political event? I bet each of these politicians will want to speak, and the bishop will not have a choice but to allow them. See how it’s so important for them to appear on that poster instead of the church leadership under the bishop.
