@BooksandMelanin We end in late May, go back for real the last week in July and many districts expect teachers to do training and pd over the summer - STEM workshops, tech workshops, county wide test writing… but then admin themselves get only about three weeks total off.

@ambernoelle You might be surprised - mine would bust out some random thing, months later, that I seldom remembered myself out of context. Then they would have to try to describe where they learned it so I could recall.

@ambernoelle I strongly disagree - every experience they have becomes a part of who they are. If they travel and have varied experiences when they are young then they are more open to and comfortable with new things when they are older, even if they don’t remember specifics.

@raybirdhill @poetpedagogue … that many things that students should learn from parents are expected to be taught at school and schools are trying to hold on to some historic social norms that don’t apply IRL anymore. At some point we have to let go of things we can’t control due to outside influences.

@stone_prof @ubjz I taught this course in HS; if we give zeros when they miss a due date there is less motivation to finish the class. So, they get a zero until the final paper, then final grade gets backfilled. Does not solve prob of not submitting, but helps give them some hope of passing.

KMHS wins over Area 5 visitors McDonough, 1105 to 1068. We had a tie for match high score between KMHS’s Julia Oubre and MD’s Joanna Seams at 290 with 18 and 12 inner 10’s respectively. Andi Wanek shot 100 with 9 inner 10’s in prone. On to Semifinals! @KMHSathletics
