@shay_o38624@strongpilled@PeterStefanovi2 The presidency is decided by the committee. I'm not arguing that the committee is without political opinions: customary practice is that the committee should reflect the parlament. But the decision is theirs, and can not be controlled directly - As U & mr.T suggests
@strongpilled@shay_o38624@PeterStefanovi2 From the charter:
Five members elected by the Norwegian Parliament for six-year terms, reflecting the Parlament's political balance. Though appointed by Parliament, it's a private body for a private prize, tasked with independent adjudication.
Biased: yes. Controlled: no.
@shay_o38624@PeterStefanovi2 three out of five used to be politicians, yes. And norwegian politics is liberal. But: Since Trump holds "Norway" (aka parlament and goverment) responsible for not getting the prize - Tell me how they control who gets the price short term, as Trump suggest.
@shay_o38624@PeterStefanovi2 "The parlament decided on June 24, 1937, that government members cannot be members of the Nobel Committee. From 1978, it became the practice that parlament representatives are not elected to the committee." - It's independent and can not be instructed.
@shay_o38624@PeterStefanovi2 Ehhh .. no... Appointing and controlling is not the same thing. The Norwegian parlament can not instruct the committee to give the prize to Trump. They CAN appoint trump-friendly members, but as each member serves six years, it's kind of hard to do that short term.
@NormanSufrin@BernieSanders Fun fact: Norway invaded Greenland in 1931. Norway never accepted the Treaty of Kiel and claimed Greenland. Iceland and the Faro Islands also used to be norwegian but stayed danish. We lost the trial In Haag and accepted the result. You know ... international law.
@NormanSufrin@BernieSanders Norwegians went to Greenland around 800 and lived there before the inuits (came around 1200) The norwegians on Greenland died out around 1500. Norway and Denmark was in a Union from 1300 to 1814. Denmark lost Norway to Sweden in the Treaty of Kiel, but Greenland did not follow.
@tpsommerschild@Sebastian198552@OleAsbjoernNess Vel.
Russland har over 2000, mange ikke operative. Etter å ha mistet 350, har de 350 igjen. Folketall: EU - 449m, USA 340, RU: 144m
Idretten hører hjemme i marka.
Vi får kjøre to biler i stedet.
