@billcrowder13 Still dry in West Texas. I don’t think people understand how dry it has been here. The rain we have received in the last couple of weeks has come too late for most of the crop. We have zero moisture profile….
@loucottonballs If congress passes the Buy American Cotton Act, we will sell all the cotton we can grow, and at a much higher price than the board shows today.
If you are based in the United States, we would appreciate you using this template and sending it to your senator and congressman. This legislation could be so important to the U.S. cotton industry and a true boost to our market and the cotton infrastructure. ACSA was kind enough to share this with us and we would like to help by passing it on to all of you!
This would be a huge win for our industry. I am attaching the legislative text. We had four original sponsors, which include:
1.Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-MS)
2.Roger Marshall (R-KS)
3.John Boozman (R-AR), chairman of the Senate Ag Committee
4.Katie Britt (R-AL)
We are currently whipping for co-sponsors. I am happy to provide the following template.
Dear __________:
I am writing to request your support for the Buying American Cotton Act of 2025. This innovative legislation creates structural demand for U.S. cotton, promotes domestic manufacturing and job creation, and will reduce the costs of existing farm bill programs. Passage of this legislation will restore economic health to many rural economies that contain cotton-specific infrastructure and will incentivize the offering of healthier textile and apparel products that do not shed microplastics to American consumers. As a stakeholder, I believe this legislation will be transformative for the U.S. cotton industry and will simultaneously strengthen America’s economy and health.
Thank you for your consideration of my request to support this important legislation.
With regards,
Did you know the U.S. annually consumes 18-20 million bales of cotton but only 4-5 million of that consumption is U.S. cotton?
We must leverage our large & valuable market to get that number up.

I don't think most non-ag people realize that a huge percentage of full-time farmers/ranchers live almost entirely on borrowed money throughout the year.
They take out an operating line of credit that pays for living expenses.
Interest accrues.
Then they hope to have a crop to sell, valuable enough to repay the loan P&I and their other term loans, with a few bucks left over to reinvest in the operation.
I'm not sure of another occupation where this is common practice.
“Regenerative is local." 🌿🚜 Todd Straley & Steve Olson from Better Cotton Partner @quarterway_c have been refining #RegenerativeAgriculture for 20 years.
Local climate, markets & infrastructure are what's important. (1/2)
#RegenAg is so local what works for Todd may not work for Steve even though their farms are just 30 miles apart - growing conditions are that different. Read all about what regen ag means to 2 West Texas #CottonFarmers: https://t.co/c58unX72OD (2/2)
@west_crop@WestTxAggie@forefrontagTX Trucks don’t get to haul, warehouses don’t get to store, merchants don’t get to sell, ships don’t get to transport, parts stores don’t get to sell parts for repairs…I could go on….it’s a huge economic impact with a lot of jobs….
