@unicorn We did this past September and it’s worth the experience, BUT the bus to the parks is annoying. Consider splitting your visit between beach club and animal kingdom. Also, club level is where it’s at.
@mg@xmtp_ Secure email signing has been available pretty much since email has existed. It’s a better solution than web3, but no one really cares to use it.
@willmanduffy Have you personally worked in orgs where this has happened? FYI I’ve worked on both sides including being the CPO. I see communication issues between PMs and engineers. Usually engineers are misunderstood higher up the org.
@willmanduffy Jumping to the conclusion that engineers are othering an entire profession would also be highly dysfunctional then too. No reason to make such an extreme assumption over a few sentences.
@willmanduffy In my experience engineers and technical people are the ones that are usually othered in organizations. There is usually revulsion to technical explanations or learning anything technical by those in other disciplines. Keep the nerds in the basement.
@kocienda I’m sure you could have used any process or no process with the people that Apple can hire. There are also normal businesses with normal non super star people. Those need some framework.
@LukeDowning19 Also, testing zealots can be off putting to those trying to do their jobs. Stuff like “that’s not a unit test, that’s a functional test” and “never test against the db” are 🙄 and super common.
@LukeDowning19 Tests are missed most in product code rather than library code. People skimp on tests to “develop faster.” They don’t understand the value of tests because they don’t stick around long enough to maintain their code. Tests don’t impact early products as much.
@darian314 Our investors bullied us a lot in our early days. We ended up giving them a great return in the end. No thanks, no re-evaluation that maybe we weren’t incompetent after all, no self reflection. Sadly, I think this attitude is more the norm in the VC community.
@mmahalwy Fun fact: SQL was originally conceived as a query language that anyone can use. It’s not for everyone, but too many people just label themselves as “non technical” and don’t even try.
@Ocramius I have run PHP and twig templates. The PHP templates tend to develop XSS vectors no matter how careful the devs think they are. I would never use any opt in to escaping ever again.
@Lanooba We had this issue at my company. Engineers wanted to be declared senior after 2-3 years of experience. If we didn’t do it they could jump to a job that did. Life outside of faang.
