Satan gives Adam an apple, and takes away paradise. Therefore in all temptations consider not what he offers, but what we shall lose.
— Richard Sibbes (1577–1635)
There's this weird intellectual tic I notice a lot in liberal Christianity, and I'm not quite sure how to phrase it, but it seems to regard every competing system of thought *except Christianity* as being sort of self-authenticating and morally at least neutral
Most SBC churches are pillars of love, ministry, and peace in their communities.
They are not arguing on Twitter…
debating denominational drift…
or organizing factions…
What you see on Twitter is not an accurate picture of who we are as Southern Baptists.
Had a long call with a friend yesterday about “platform” and ministry. A few things came out of that call felt worth sharing:
1. Ministry isn’t supposed to be a platform. Pastoring isn’t a platform. It’s serving. It’s shepherding a specific group of people. It’s foot-washing.
I know this game is annoying, but seriously, if pro-lifers had spent the past month fire-bombing abortion clinics, imagine — just *imagine* — the reaction. They’d be called terrorists, Merrick Garland would have given a press conference, the Biden admin would be all over it.
But I also fear that if our assessment of what happened is flawed, rushed, or incomplete, so will our attempts to correct the problems and prevent abuse moving forward. I pray that’s not the case. /END
Prediction: @GuidepostGlobal and the SBC SATF will either ignore this article or dismiss it rather than publicly interacting with its actual claims, but consider; 1/
Fwiw, I’m a bivo church planter/pastor who supported the recent election of Greear, Litton (at the time), and Barber. I’m not a CBN guy. I care deeply about preventing sexual abuse and caring well for victims; 6/
