Western Railway’s Prompt Response to the Borivali Local Train Incident

Following the unfortunate stabbing incident onboard Churchgate–Nallasopara Fast Local (Train No. 90663) on 23 June 2026, Western Railway staff, RPF, GRP personnel and medical teams, responded swiftly upon the train’s arrival at Borivali station. Senior Western Railway officers also reached Borivali station to review the incident and took stock of the situation.

Timeline of Response

🕚 23:04 hrs – Train arrived at Borivali station.

🕚 23:07 hrs – RPF and GRP personnel reached the coach and attended to the injured passenger. Medical team, stretcher and porter reached the coach.

🕚 23:12 hrs – Injured passenger was evacuated and shifted for emergency medical care.

🕚 23:22 hrs – Passenger examined by the Emergency Medical Room (EMR) doctor and declared dead after examination.

🕚 23:42 hrs – Shifted by Ambulance to Shatabdi Hospital, Kandivali, accompanied by RPF and GRP personnel.

SUMMARY OF THE INCIDENT

The victim, Mayank Lohar (22 years), and the accused boarded the train at Andheri and were travelling in the same first-class coach.

An argument reportedly broke out between the two passengers regarding closing of the coach door during heavy rain.

During the altercation, the accused allegedly stabbed the victim in the abdomen, causing serious injuries. The stabbing took place inside the moving train between Andheri and Borivali stations.

At Borivali station, the accused deboarded the train before it came to a complete halt on PF No. 06 and fled from the spot.

The incident is under investigation by the Government Railway Police (GRP). Western Railway is extending full cooperation to the investigating authorities and remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of all passengers through a prompt and coordinated emergency response.

CCTV footage and other relevant evidence were secured immediately and handed over to the investigating agencies.

Further details will emerge during the course of the investigation.
