Superb by @jburnmurdoch:
“In country after country the birth rate plunged after the introduction of smartphones, no matter what the previous trend was…the modern digital media environment has had profound effects on society that have led to a decline in romantic coupling”.

I think we can call this projection. The left create division and then describe efforts to restore unity - through strengthening our common culture - as ‘divisive’. They hate non-progressive people & ideas so they call those people & ideas ‘hateful’. We who are the targets of this nasty message are actually the ones standing for unity and decency; our opponents are the haters (if you doubt it, watch the viciousness of the replies I get to this from the ‘be kind’ brigade)
NEW: Is the internet changing our personalities for the worse?
Conscientiousness and extroversion are down, neuroticism up, with young adults leading the charge.
This is a really consequential shift, and there’s a lot going on here, so let’s get into the weeds 🧵
A questions I constantly ask myself is, how tightly-integrated are my Christian convictions with my political priorities & participation? Do I interpret the political landscape through the lens of our culture or through the eyes of Christ?
A hugely important message for Christians to heed as much as parliamentarians. All politics is religious. All true faith is public. If we care about our country, she must return to the one true faith. There is no nobility in keeping God out of politics. Quite the opposite.
I’d only add that the Christian story in England is far broader than the story of the Church of England, as is our present re-engagement with Christian faith.
The question is not whether the young, old and disabled should be provided for. Of course they should. The question is whose responsibility is it to provide? Families and communities, or the State? For the last few decades, our answer has been ‘the State’ and we now have record levels of family breakdown, rising ill health, an epidemic of loneliness and a birth rate collapse. And because we are spending so much money on welfare, the state can no longer afford to fulfil its basic responsibilities to defend us, enforce law and order and build infrastructure. Outsourcing compassion, provision and care to the faceless taxpayer has been a failure for individuals and the public purse. We need a new model.
I understand why pensioners feel entitled to more. But the truth is that Boomers have received more cash from the state than any generation before or since. Young people can’t afford to have children because they’re being taxed so much to pay for pensions. https://t.co/5Hchvk9nx0
"You’ve allowed yourself to be in a very bad position... You don't have the cards... With us, you have the cards, but without us you don’t have any cards... This is going to be great television."
Trump is not Orange Hitler. His book was The Art of the Deal not Mein Kampf. But...
This morning the Leadbeater Bill committee voted to let Clause 1 go through unamended - having rejected safeguards to protect the mentally ill, disabled people, those influenced or encouraged by others or those seeking assisted suicide to save their family money. We were told at 2R the committee would improve and strengthen the bill. Not so far.
Today we’re launching the Anthropic Economic Index, a new initiative aimed at understanding AI's impact on the economy over time.
The Index’s first paper analyzes millions of anonymized Claude conversations to reveal how AI is being used today in tasks across the economy.
@timfarron This is a super helpful set of reflections on this particular issue. There is an order of loves, and JD Vance’s comment (as far as it goes) isn’t necessarily wrong. But it radically underestimates the calling for Christians to ALSO show love and grace. https://t.co/SPVBuFcUqI
Much has been written about how a fear of undermining ‘multiculturalism’ allowed child rape gangs to continue for so long. But there were other factors too, including the normalisation of underage sex and false ideas about “child rights.” A 🧵 1/
