Nothing to do with bulking up IMO. It started with the preseason body cramps, but then it became a mental hurdle. Probably also got advice from his dad/camp to tap out the moment he felt anything wrong physically.

Bill Self and the staff also had to use him different (more off the ball) because he was in and out of the lineup so much and they didn’t know whether they would have him. Also probably wanted to conserve him and protect him to have him for NCAA tourney.

He was a shell of himself this past season. This is a kid who could do so much more in terms of making plays for his teammates than he showed this season. If he had been physically and mentally healthy all year, I don’t even think there would be a debate as to who the No. 1 pick is. But now there are plenty of questions from NBA GM’s - including his competitiveness. Which shocks me because I never, ever would have anticipated anyone questioning Peterson’s competitiveness two years ago. He was a MF’er every time I saw him on the court.

Whichever GM gets the No. 1 pick is gonna have a tough decision now. I still believe if he can get everything straightened out, he is most talented in class. But he is a different dude. One thing I actually love about him is that he doesn’t care about any of the attention.
