Sometimes I wonder "What would it look like if someone was given a few million dollars to make a cheap exploitation film and used it to make a beautiful masterpiece instead?" and then I remember that The Terminator exists.
If Alien: Romulus is as good as the new trailer indicates it will be, it'll continue a run of me being quite pleased with how the 20th Century Fox franchises they acquired have been tackled and expanded upon in their Disney-owned era.
Godzilla Minus One is everything people are saying it is. What a terrific Godzilla film! A character-driven story that I was invested in.
It's a shame that many of today's moviegoing audience thinks of Godzilla as nothing more than some silly large lizard that has it out for Japan, when in actuality, Godzilla is more than that. Godzilla is a symbol. His inception in 1954 was a metaphor and a warning for all of humanity. There's a reason Godzilla is radioactive. It's not just because it's cool. Leaning into that subtext, the symbolism and cinematic language of his symbol has ALWAYS been what Godzilla is to me. Combining the more layered storytelling WITH the mouth-watering Godzilla action people want is the way to go.
I am always a little sad when he's defeated at the end, because Godzilla, in many ways, is innocent. He's a product of circumstance. His story is a tragic one.
Godzilla Minus One is proof that these types of films can be MORE than just wacky video game silliness and still be badass!

At the Freddie Mercury tribute concert, Axl Rose was supposed to sing "Bohemian Rhapsody" as a duet with Elton John.
He didn't show up for any of the rehearsals, in fact the members of Queen didn't know if he was going to show up.
There was no plan B…
