Most Pomodoro apps that should help you focus, are secretly distracting you with statistics, streaks, and trying to create a brand
That’s why I launched my first completely free macOS app, Shuki
It’ll blend right in with your MacBook, is super lightweight, has handcrafted sound effects and lets you personalize around what matters, the functionality that helps you focus
You can download it now from the App Store – if you like it, I hope you will leave a review!
I feel like I have the development skills down for creating iOS and macOS apps – my next goal is to get better at design
Most viral apps are not purely functional, they also connect emotionally, often through the use of recognizable mascots, but also through characteristic motion
So with two MVPs shipped, I'm going to pivot to learning and improving my design skills, and iterate on the designs of my current apps – curious to see where that'll bring me!
@thijsmakes@marclou I studied songwriting, I play the guitar and piano
Interesting! I also have a few ideas, maybe let’s discuss those sometime, I’m in the same boat as you trying to make it as a solopreneur with a few years of development experience
My second app just got released! Will make a decent post tomorrow, but too excited not to share, this one is already genuinely improving my friendships over the past weeks
@thijsmakes@marclou Good luck, brother! I’ve been thinking a lot about music apps, but having studied at ArtEZ Conservatory I know how poor most musicians are 😂
@wesoudshoorn@PaulvonExcite Invitation system, my bad, even more “exclusive”, it’s how Facebook grew its audience and then the dating app Raya just to give some examples
@wesoudshoorn@PaulvonExcite That’s probably the reason it’s going viral – a waitlist is supposed to make it feel premium among other vibe-coded webapps, people love being in “exclusive” communities
@lucian_ships I'm sure you're right, it's still just very cool to see your own first app sit in that list, even if it's just for a short while
I posted it on ProductHunt, submitted it to Macapp Supply, shared development on X, and shared it with some friends!

Here we go! What’s new:
- Optionally show minutes only for less distraction, for example 25m instead of 25:00
- Start or pause from the keyboard (Option-Command-Equals, customizable in Settings)
- See your current session in the menu, like Session 2 of 4
