you must create because the thing you’d make doesn’t exist anywhere else. nobody has your exact combination of experiences and wounds and obsessions, which means the work only you could make is genuinely irreplaceable. if you don’t make it, it simply never exists. the world just goes without it, never knowing what it missed. that’s the most exciting thing about being you. the thing is waiting and you’re the only door it has.

A thread on X went viral this week after Thendo Muloiwa shared that he’d spent 2 years renting a flat in Victory Park, Johannesburg, for R12 000 a month.
The same unit is now listed for sale at R1.4 million.
When Thendo did the math, the numbers told a very different story about property ownership. Bond repayments, levies, and rates would push the monthly cost of owning that same flat to more than R18 000 per month, far above the rent he was paying.
Even more surprising? The unit only appreciated by R25 000 in seven years, while some apartments in the complex have reportedly been sitting on the market since 2024 without buyers.
It’s a conversation that’s challenging one of South Africa’s biggest money beliefs: is buying property always the smarter financial move?
