I keep hearing the words “socialist” and “communist” used interchangeably in today's political debate. They aren't the same thing.

Yes, there are candidates running for Congress who openly identify as democratic socialists and support policies that would significantly expand government's role in health care, housing, energy and other parts of the economy.

I disagree with those policies and believe they would move America in the wrong direction.
But that doesn't automatically make someone a communist.

Communism is a system that goes much further—including eliminating or severely restricting private ownership of businesses and productive property in favor of collective or state control.

We don't need to exaggerate someone's position to oppose it. If a candidate supports socialist policies, call them socialist policies. If they actually support communist policies, show exactly what those policies are.

Political debate is much stronger when we argue about what people actually believe rather than simply attaching the most inflammatory label we can find.

Facts should be strong enough to make the argument.

By fighting us to release the Epstein files, Trump destroyed America’s ability to trust him, and he refused to bring accountability to pedophiles and rapists.

By prioritizing his rich donors, big corporations, and big tech instead of prioritizing small business owners (which are over 90% of the businesses in America), the working class, and the everyday Americans like the ones that showed up at all of his rallies.

By supporting, promoting, and directing legislation in Congress from the White House that supports the AI data center agenda, destroying communities and land and precious water instead of standing with the people who overwhelmingly oppose data centers.

By enriching himself and his family with government contracts, Crypto, which he signed into law, and manipulating the markets with his threats and statements.

By waging an unprovoked war with Iran, he completely betrayed one of the key campaign promises and his own statements opposing foreign wars, and instead of bringing peace, he has murdered innocent people like the children in the Minab school.

By stupidly and carelessly depleting our much needed weapons for defense in his pointless war that he started because he listened to Netanyahu instead of our own intelligence reports that Iran was no where near developing a nuclear weapon.

By 100% completely betraying MAHA by giving total immunity to glyphosate manufacturers, protecting COVID vaccines, never holding anyone accountable like Fauci and others for crimes against humanity during the tyrannical Covid era, and now approving and promoting more dangerous mRNA vaccines and the WH constantly blocking RFK’s agenda, which is what people voted for all because Trump actually opposes MAHA and fully supports the Covid tyranny and was the one who started all of it and loved the Democrat governors, like Cuomo, who extended the lockdowns and madness.

By protecting Chinese foreign students stealing American students college dreams and H1B Indian visa holders replacing Americans jobs, he put Americans last.

By endorsing and supporting literally the absolute worst and most hated so-called Republicans in the party and making sure that they get reelected over and over again to stay in power so that true Conservative America First Republican candidates running in primaries never win. And by backstabbing and attacking those who were most loyal and supportive (like me) but refused to worship him because he is only a man, NOT God.

All betrayals to the people who supported him for so long because we believed MAGA was for the common American man and woman, yet we were completely fooled it was really for the Epstein class and Trump’s circle of rich powerful elite friends and family all along.

We all know Democrats are a lost cause. It’s the Republican Senate leadership that will not end the filibuster, which will be ended anyway by the Democrats the moment they take over the Senate.

My impression is that this was a positive experience. Clearly enforcing motor vehicle laws is part of a policeman’s job. The cop seemed to be polite enough. I don’t see a problem with this at all.

Got pulled over last week. In a minivan. With my wife and 3 kids. Here’s the conversation with the officer who pulled me over

(Context, the date is 8/1. My tags expired 7/31)

PO: “Sir, you know your tags are expired?”

Me: “Yes, I re-registered yesterday online.”

PO: “Okay, why don’t you have the new sticker?”

Me: “I don’t know. I guess I haven’t gotten it in the mail yet.”

PO: “Can you step out of the car real quick?”

Leads me to the back of the car

PO: “You see that sticker? It’s expired.”

Me: “Yes. I re-registered yesterday before the expiration date.”

PO: “You need the tag before the expiration date. Now I have to take my time to stop, pull you over, and make sure you’ve actually re-registered.”

Me: “I’m sorry, I thought I just had to re-register before the expiration date.”

PO: “Nope. Get back in the car, I’m going to run your name through the system to make sure you’re telling me the truth.”

Me: “Okay. I’m sorry if I didn’t do this right.”

I get back in my car. He checks my info. Confirmed, I’ve already paid. The tag is in the mail. He lets me go with a warning.

PO: “Make sure you put that sticker on as soon as you get it.”

Me: “Absolutely will do. Thank you officer.”

I’ve generally only had positive experiences with police and I respect my brothers and sisters in blue. But this one bothered me. I mean, come on. Don’t you think there are better things to do than pull minivans over whose tags are expired by 1 day?

You’re being disingenuous. This nominee was confirmed due to removing such nominees from being subject to the filibuster. Much proposed legislation is still subject to the filibuster which means it takes getting 60 Senators or more on board. So which legislation are you referring to exactly sir?

An example of a politician marginalizing their base. Acton knows her base will turn out for her anyway. Since she’s got those votes sewed up expand your turnout by appealing to independents. It’s an intelligent strategy. Tribalism is rampant in American politics and tribalism enables base marginalization. Both political parties do it.

Think about it this way. Say you identify as a Republican and think Husted won’t do a thing for OH. Say a 1000 Republican voters think that they’ll abstain from voting in the Senate election then Husted wins by 500 votes. Well their abstaining didn’t change results. What about if those 1000 voters who abstained voted for Sherrod Brown to send a message to Republican leaders were not going to accept marginalization any longer?

Steven A Smith of all people enlightened me on voter strategy. Not an exact quote but it is the gist of it:
“I wish blacks would vote a straight R ticket just once. They’d reap tremendous benefits from doing so.”

Smith is a staunch Democrat. It’s brilliant . The idea is that they’d help get Republicans elected for sure in the current election. In the next selection however things would be a lot different. Both parties would be striving to earn the black vote. The Democrats to get it back, the Republicans to keep it.
Put another way, Smith’s point is don’t allow yourself to be marginalized. When you allow yourself to be marginalized the Party you support isn’t required to earn your vote and will act accordingly.
