Officers saw the teen clutching his shorts, making them think he could have a weapon.

"I was clutching my pants because it was below 60 degrees, my hands were in my pants for warmth," Jeremiah Spearman said.

He was walking home and doesn't understand why he was being followed.

Police handcuff & detain Black 16 year old—for walking home with hands in his pockets.

"He was acting like someone who commits crimes," said officer.

"When people grab their crotch area it's fair to assume—especially in this neighborhood—they could have a gun."

Jeremiah said it was a chilly day so when he was walking on the sidewalk he put his hands in his pockets.

Officer could give no further explanation to his mother why he put her son in handcuffs—other than he "looked suspicious."

Police Chief Shannon Bagley issued a statement defending the officer's actions —but refused to provide the name officer involved.

Incident occurred in the Washington Heights neighborhood of Battle Creek, Michigan.

in Henrico County, VA after his mother dropped him off for swim camp at SwimRVA-North, located at 317 North Wilkinson Road. It was King’s first day at swim camp and he was excited to learn how to swim.
His mother, LaTaisha Johnson, is demanding answers as to how her son drowned at a swim camp that was meant to teach children how to swim. Henrico Police are refusing to call it a drowning!!! We can’t let them cover this up.

Daryl McLune, 16 at the time, was arrested in Wandsworth in July 2021 on suspicion of attempted murder after his mum, Annette McLune, jumped from the roof of their flat in a suicide attempt.

He'd been at his grandma's and cycled home to find his mum critically injured. He was then handcuffed in the street and held for nearly 24 hours, despite not being involved.

Police later found a suicide note and razor blades showing it was self-harm, and he was released without charge. The experience left him with PTSD and affected his schooling.

He later sued the Met Police, and a jury found he was racially discriminated against and treated less fairly than a non-Black boy would have been, awarding him £130,000.

His barrister said it wasn't careful policing, it was a child in crisis being wrongly treated as a suspect, and that discrimination can be unconscious.
