@bucknekked003@masuzafi Would it be possible to use a term other than “retards”? Surely you could widen your vocabulary. I have worked with students who had special needs and the term is demeaning and offensive. Feel free to have your opinion, but use a different descriptor.
@FinancialPhys Reading about cost of filling trucks. Wondering just how many drivers legitimately need trucks. The marketing that took place post emission controls worked well and shifted what North Americans choose. How did we get by prior to so many $90K trucks? Too much vehicle for salary.
For more than a decade the first step in education reform still seems to be to exaggerate the problem at hand, creating 'urgency'. This includes creating an 'enemy'.
@plthomasEdD@AngelaH37119622 Alao, if it was “settled” why are they changing it? I keep wondering how so many tens of millions are able to function if BL doesn’t work. The loudest probably had an education based around non SOL practices, yet are highly literate. Hijacked by shallow thinking.
Fun fact: States have spent 10s of 10s of millions on LETRS training ... that scientific research shows does not raise student reading proficiency! Where is media coverage of that?

@DrMaryHoward There are many who criticize Reading Recovery, yet have no understanding what it entails. I know Emily Hanford probably won’t read Billy’s response.
Powerful read from Billy Molasso. As a trained reading recovery teacher who saw the benefits firsthand, I find the lack legitimate studies and conjecture appalling. Thank you to Billy for opening the door to mis information ( and Susan for sharing
The Science of Reading promised that if we just taught phonics with enough fidelity, comprehension would follow.
Now scores aren't moving. So the pivot: "Actually, they need knowledge."
"Homeschooled students on average have substantially lower math scores as compared to reading scores, a discrepancy that may follow many out of childhood into their adult lives."

We say we want writers
then hand kids worksheets.
Let them play with language, let them experiment, and let them actually write.
That’s where it starts. Let them see where it leads.
@wealthmoose 1/2 Nick Shirley is a YouTuber who makes claims that are incomplete, exaggerated, AND not verified
He amplifies DEBUNKED narratives and his content is widely described as “sensationalized” and narrative-driven
He is a pathetic little guy who is DESPERATE for attention
@wealthmoose@nickshirleyy Investigator? Shake your head. He is nothing but a grifting rw pos. His "investigations" have been nothing but lies. The adults will take care of him in short work.
The question isn’t just what curriculum is being used.
It’s what students are actually doing all day.
Reading whole texts?
Talking about ideas?
Building meaning over time?
Or moving through fragments designed for measurement?
Those are not the same experience.
