Almost time to start thinking about how you will start your math classes this year. Especially this year, open questions might be critical to figure out where your students are.
Have a look at this grass roots workshop for Grades 1 to 10 https://t.co/ypFEEGQVmt
Great visualization. Here’s one where student uses an odd distance, decomposes as doubles + 1 or even + 1. Then “sees the halfway point as a fraction. Now knows half of 17.
I have compiled a collection of puzzles, short and long tasks, and games that can be used to introduce the new de-streamed Grade 9 Math course. I am sharing it here for anyone to use as they see fit.

Amen! Creating a positive classroom and school climate based on strong relationships is what students need! This is the foundation for learning and growth! They need a sense of safety & belonging! Love them before we meet them! All of them! #SEL#LOVE#KIDS#TEACHERS#PRINCIPALS
THE HERO by Joyce Tonner is a meaningful and heartwarming book that your little ones will be eager to read. @tonner_j

Yes, the mathematical nudge is a “visualization estimation” as we work towards precision. How close can they get with the nudge to partition a line in 7ths? Student said to me “ Easy! Just nudge off the half and then 1/3rd the two parts”
If you aren’t familiar with @vocaroo it’s a great online platform to record reading and easy for students to use. I’m able to hear them read as they record themselves reading and send it my way. Today we start Grenade by @AlanGratz#tvdsbliteracy@CaradocPS
Mathematical modelling is an “explanation”. It also leads to next question, so learning doesn’t stop at the answer. Like - How is subtraction different/same on a numberline?
Hi again, colleagues. My Grassroots workshop on open questions in G 1 - 10 math is up early. Hope to "meet" some of you using the workshop.

Thanks, Erin. Seems like a good time to also remind #TVDSB Ts of the COL Week at a Glance resources shared by the Literacy Team—ready-to-go plans for asynchronous learning on Monday, April 19th.
Excited to announce that as of today I am officially a certified teacher in Ontario!! Grateful for all of my mentors, colleagues, friends, and family for the support over the last 6 years! 🥰 Excited to begin this career as an Occasional Teacher with @TVDSB!!
