🚨 India may need to import even more edible oil in 2026.
Despite a sharp drop in June imports, the Solvent Extractors’ Association (SEA) says India’s total edible oil imports are still running about 7% above last year and are expected to exceed 16 million tonnes in 2026.
📉 June imports: -30% YoY
📈 2026 total imports: >16M tonnes expected
Why the concern?
🌧️ Uneven monsoon progress
🌱 Lower Kharif oilseed acreage than last year
☁️ Weaker rainfall forecast for the crucial August–September period
💧 Lower reservoir levels threatening the upcoming Rabi season
SEA warns that domestic vegetable oil availability is likely to tighten during July–September, increasing reliance on imports to bridge the supply gap.
Globally, palm oil is still competitively priced, but Indonesia’s B50 biodiesel mandate is expected to divert more palm oil into fuel production, reducing supplies available for food markets and supporting vegetable oil prices worldwide.
In short: tighter domestic oilseed prospects + stronger import dependence + biofuel demand could keep edible oil markets firm in the months ahead.

Kena bayar cukai atas perbelajaan sebelum untung
An Open Letter to Johor
I may be a Sabahan living in KL, but today, I am writing this to you because our struggle is the exact same. Today is the grand finale for Bersama Malaysia. I want to do my small part to energize every Johorean to come back home and vote, especially those in the 15 constituencies we are contesting. I hope my words reflect exactly what you and your family are feeling, just as my family and I feel.
If you could see my hands while I write this, you would see them trembling.
I am terrified to write down my own shame and brokenness. I don't have a title. I don't have a degree. In the eyes of the world, I am a nobody. Do I have power? No. My only power today was stepping onto this bus to Johor, because I could no longer sit in the dark and watch you bleed the same blood that I do.
I want to tell you a secret.
People think that fighting just means shouting in a crowd, or liking and sharing posts in alam maya (the virtual world). But that’s not true. When I write this to you... whatever crushing, unbearable weight you are carrying in your chest right now... it transfers straight into mine. Because your pain is my pain. I feel it. I feel every single ounce of it because I am living proof of this struggle, just as we all are.
I don't just see people on a screen or in a field. I see open wounds that nobody talks about.
I see the mothers. I know the exact moment your heart broke this month. It was the day your child came to you with a permission slip for a school trip. It was only fifty ringgit. But I know the way your throat completely closed up, because you simply didn't have it.
I know you had to look into the eyes of your own child and say, ‘Maybe next time, sayang.’
And I know what the worst part is. The absolute worst part... is that your little boy didn't cry. He just smiled, put the paper away, and said, ‘It’s okay, Mama. I didn't want to go anyway.’
Our children are learning how to be poor. They are shrinking their beautiful dreams so they don't break our hearts. That is a guilt no mother, no father, should ever have to carry. But we carry it every single day.
I see the fathers. You, who were raised to be the strong ones. You, who are never allowed to cry. I know about the days you skip lunch at work. I know you drink tap water just to fill the empty ache in your stomach, just so you can save an extra ten ringgit for the house. And then you come home, force a smile, look at your family, and lie. You say, ‘I had a big meal today. You guys eat.’
You are carrying the weight of the entire world on your shoulders. Your knees are buckling. You think nobody sees your sacrifice. You think nobody cares that you are drowning.
I see myself in you. God sees you. And we are not failures. You are the greatest hero your family will ever know.
We are a nation full of beautiful, exhausted people, constantly apologizing to our children for a world we didn't break.
The people in power... they don't know this pain. They don't know what it feels like to stand at the pharmacy counter, counting coins, praying you have enough for your mother's medicine while the line behind you sighs. They want us to stay quiet. They want us to be so ashamed of our struggle that we just put our heads down and give up.
If I could be on that stage at the grand finale in Tampoi tonight, I would ask every leader sitting at the front to turn around, look at the faces in the crowd, and hear this:
Look at my brothers and sisters. Do not look away from their pain. We are handing you the fragile, beating hearts of our families tomorrow. We are trusting you with the only lives we have. If you step into the Dewan Undangan Negeri Johor, or one day into Putrajaya, and you forget the tears of the mother in Tampoi tonight... if you forget the father who starved himself today... there is no forgiveness for that. Do not betray us.

Interesting game of chicken being played in palm oil in Indonesia. Refiners keep underbidding but to no avail as cpo tenders getting withdrawn often. With stocks super tight in Indonesia, these refiners are 100% betting on “peak production season”. Likely gonna get F.
Gasoil to CPO is at discount USD-150. Means diesel is cheaper to CPO by USD150/mt. To biodiesel easily ~USD230. Those analyst who said high diesel price will incentivise biodiesel blending, pls show me your maths. Indon will have hard time with weak IDR and keep subsidizing B50.
Tourist Scam Alert:
If you are visiting Batu Caves in Kuala Lumpur and entering the gate from Grab/Bolt/Taxi drop off point, this is for you 👇
- Right at the gate, you will face 4-5 well-built Indian origin men, who will block your way and ask you to go left to Ramayana Caves.
- You will be made to feel that there is no way other than turning left. Ramayana Cave is a paid attraction and not what you perhaps want.
- Ignore them (even if you have to be stubborn) and walk straight ahead for the main caves and Lord Murugan idol. This is free and is the main attraction.
Indonesia just pulled a move that most people are UNDERestimating 👇
From July 1, they will STOP importing diesel
and switch to B50 (50% palm oil fuel)
Let that sink in…
🌴 The world’s largest palm oil producer
is now burning more of its own supply
This is not just energy policy.
This is a global commodity shift.
📊 What’s happening behind the scenes:
• Biodiesel use → 14.2B liters (2025)
• Was 9.3B in 2021
• Imports already collapsing
• Now heading to ZERO diesel imports
💥 Why markets should care:
When Indonesia uses more palm oil at home →
👉 Exports shrink
👉 Global supply tightens
And when that happens…
🔥 Palm oil prices get support
🔥 Soy oil & sunflower oil follow
🔥 Entire edible oil complex moves
🇮🇳 India impact = BIG
India depends heavily on palm oil imports.
If Indonesia keeps diverting supply to fuel:
➡️ Less availability
➡️ Higher import prices
➡️ Food inflation risk rises
⚠️ And this is just phase 1…
Indonesia is planning to:
• Expand biofuel into petrol
• Cut gasoline imports by 2027
Palm oil is no longer just food.
It’s becoming fuel.
And when food turns into fuel…
prices don’t stay stable.
This is how the next commodity cycle starts 👀
