1/8/2026 7:10 PM CDT update on the current site outage: we are in the process of a server transition and upgrade that will result in downtime until it is complete. Our previous traffic allowance was exceeded with the old provider. We thank you for your patience.
@HAPPYGUyTheOG @Collins_Wx@JaydonShawwx The extra tornado count seems to be an issue with counting waterspouts this year as US tornadoes when we hadn't in years past. We'll be fixing this soon
v2.3.1 is live, which includes the 2024 US data and the Philippines data! This also includes the globe view and bug fixes for European environment data and missing wind barbs for all environment data on some machines. https://t.co/R1SnXR9E1t...
2024 was a very busy year for tornadoes in the US, so it's taken a while to get all the data processed. We're in the final stages of this, and the 2024 US data will hopefully be released soon. We're also working on getting updated European data from ESWD, hopefully this summer.

We've also been working on redoing the environment data, including our own CAPE calculations and laying the groundwork to add point-and-click soundings in a future version. We hoped to release this with the 2024 data, but it's become a much bigger project than anticipated.
We are very excited to announce that the paper led by Malcolm Maas describing our site/database and its utilities has been accepted for publication in BAMS and is now in EOR! A big thank you to all involved in the process!

50 years ago today, the Super Outbreak of 1974 occurred. A very large and powerful storm system spurred 148 tornadoes across 13 states and one Canadian province, 7 of them rated F5 and 23 of them rated F4. At least 310 people were killed and over 5000 were injured.
As others have forwarded on their personal accounts, we are pleased to announce that Version 2.3 has been made live including new 2023 (international) data, bug fixes to pre-1950 tornado tracks, and narrative comments to many tornadoes. We hope you enjoy!
As an add-on from yesterday, a bug in the database development pipeline caused more detailed tracks from pre-1950 tornadoes (e.g. for Grazulis' F5 events) to be overwritten in the web version over the last several months. This will be corrected in the upcoming update.
A status update as some have inquired recently: the data for 2023 tornadoes is currently being processed and QC’d for addition to the website. Environmental data is also being added for these dates. We appreciate your patience as we update with the approach of spring 2024!
@CameronJNixon@wxkylegillett@ahberrington We've actually wanted to integrate all of this into our site for a while! It's a pretty big challenge, but it would be really cool.
