Merging our military with a foreign country is a treasonous betrayal of our sovereignty.

“If you thought Flock was bad, a company just ended their partnership with Flock to go create something even more terrifying. This remarkable 1903 glass negative captures far more than a woman holding a child. It preserves a glimpse into Peru's complex social hierarchy at the beginning of the 20th Century.

The woman is identified as an ama de leche—literally "milk mother" or wet nurse. Wet nurses were women hired to breastfeed and care for infants whose biological mothers could not or chose not to nurse. The baby is **Isidro Ernesto Ascher Freymann**, the son of a wealthy family, dressed in an elaborate christening gown that sharply contrasts with the practical clothing of the woman holding him.

In Peru, as in much of Europe and Latin America, employing a wet nurse was often a sign of wealth and social status. Elite women sometimes avoided breastfeeding because of health concerns, social expectations, or the belief that nursing would interfere with future pregnancies or their role in high society. Instead, the daily nourishment, and often much of the emotional care, of their infants was entrusted to another woman.

Many Peruvian wet nurses came from Indigenous, Afro-Peruvian, or mixed-race communities. They frequently left their own homes, and sometimes their own babies, to live with affluent families. Some were well compensated by the standards of the day, but others had few economic alternatives. Their labor extended well beyond breastfeeding; many became full-time caregivers, comforting, bathing, dressing, and raising children who were not their own.

The photograph quietly reveals the racial and class divisions that shaped Peruvian society after the abolition of slavery in 1854. Although legally free, many Afro-Peruvian women continued working in domestic service, where opportunities remained limited by entrenched inequality. Wet nursing became one of the few occupations that could provide steady income.

That silence is common in historical photographs. The people whose labor made privileged lives possible were often left unnamed, even when they were central to a child's earliest years. Today, this image stands as a powerful reminder that behind many prominent families were women whose care shaped lives but whose own stories were rarely preserved.

Congress has never required mandatory E-Verify for all employers nationwide. The system that checks work authorization remains voluntary in most states and sectors.

This gap allowed companies in tech and contracting to continue hiring patterns that undercut American wages and bypassed domestic labor. The original intent of protecting the legal workforce was never fully enforced.
