@Adamvstime@EricLDaugh I suspect there is a lot of truth to that. For one the number probably includes Border Patrol arrests which aren’t interior enforcement. Still, NYT reported ICE arrests were 2,000 a day during a recent 5 day period. So maybe partially true?
@MarkSKrikorian Trump’s boasts are tiresome and the message a year and a half in is still confused. You can’t exclusively talk about criminals if your intent is to deport all illegals, most of whom are not criminals. Say what your intent actually is.
@ShaneGar_33@staringindis@derzum_ That would be neither ethical nor legal nor politically practical. It would be good if right wingers interested in immigration had some elementary notion of what was achievable and how to get there.
@staringindis@derzum_ There are about 50 million foreign born people living in the United States more than half of whom are citizens. A good chunk of the rest are legal immigrants. They aren’t going to expelled.
@derzum_ If population loss were to exceed 100 million by the end of the century it would be because every year deaths exceeded births. White Americans are the oldest group on average and will suffer the heaviest losses. So yes, that will remake the country.
@SenBlumenthal The Bill of Rights, including the right to keep and bear arms, applies in Hawaii just like it applies in every other state. That was what the Supreme Court held.
@berniemoreno@SenWarren Social Security contributions are linked to benefits. Will people who pay more than the current maximum also receive benefits above the current maximum?
@RepMikeQuigley And Musk gets back from Social Security the same retirement income as an American making $184,500. You get back what you put in. Seems fair.
@BasedMikeLee Senator Cornyn is right, it’s not going to happen. Senator Lee knows that as well but he tries to convince the gullible that Republicans holding their breath until the Democrats give in would somehow work.
According to May statistics about 31 million foreign born people are employed in the US, about 19% of the workforce. More than half of foreign born people are citizens. A large chunk of the rest are green card holders. Their visas aren’t going to be cancelled. It does no good to vastly exaggerate the problem then offer fantasy solutions.
Including SAVE in a reconcilliation bill would obviously violate Senate rules. “Ramming it through” is equivalent to abolishing the filibuster. The Republican Senate does not support that. The Majority Leader can’t force Senators to do things they think are foolish. The hate Thune campaign is divisive nonsense.
