the analogy i like is that most models feel like the “big dog that thinks it’s a small dog” and tries to sit on your lap, they don’t know the impact they have on the world.

fable was the first big model that felt like it knew it was big. opus 5 is the second.

i’ve been testing this for a while and it’s a really good model. feels like a smaller fable instead of another opus.

biggest improvement for me is that, like fable, opus 5 treads carefully in long horizon tasks, so you can learn to trust it pretty quickly.

I loved and still love opening up web pages and tinkering with them, but it was way too intimidating for most. I get why drag and drop WYSIWYG reached the mainstream, but I'm so excited to see simple, readable code be resurgent again, finally accessible to everyone with agents.

hypothesis:

the writing styles of language models are basically fine, they weren’t better in some halcyon before times. we just use them so much that we get annoyed by their mannerisms. they need to have a superhumanly diverse idiolect to not become grating

Claude Fable 5 is without a doubt the best model I’ve ever used. When it comes to long running tasks nothing comes even close.
