@TruthMattersJC @Bible365_ Not to mention, the previous verse says, “For thus says the Lord: When seventy years are completed for Babylon, I will visit you, and I will fulfill to you my promise and bring you back to this place."
Reps of @MSNBCTNetwork and MS’s World Class Teaching Programs thanked @SenHydeSmith today for her support of @NBPTS Certification and co-sponsoring SR 533 which designated 1/21-1/27/24 as NBCT Week. #NBCTstrong
There are only 2 problems with using tests to assess learning: Right answers often don’t reflect real understanding, and wrong answers often don’t reflect the absence of understanding.
(Because the kind of learning tests are designed to assess isn't really about understanding.)
🗣️ Feedback dialogue between teachers & students promotes deeper understanding & engagement 💬 (Carless, D. (2013). Trust, distrust and their impact on assessment reform. Assessment & Evaluation in Higher Education, 38(1), 3-17.) #grading
@lpdeal The purpose of assessments is to determine what students have learned so you can make decisions about what students need. If you think the test corrections accurately demonstrate what they learned, the assessment should reflect it.
@alicekeeler My guess is that someone is trying to offer another magic pill for good instruction rather than focusing on the big picture. Teaching is hard, and there is no way to simplify it down to only one "cure".
@alicekeeler Give an update after you've given it a try. My son is an extreme introvert and gets extremely anxious in loud situations. I wonder if something like this would help him.
1/2 Early in her career, @regieroutman was required to teach reading via phonics drills and worksheets - "and lots of kids were failing to learn to read successfully." But "there was nothing wrong with their ability to learn; the problem was how we were teaching them."
@sahoola@alfiekohn I think what he's saying is that phonics is over taught causing students to be able to call words and sounds but still unable to comprehend and make sense of the text.
Am I the only one that gets a laugh every time someone uses @Twitter to complain about @elonmusk?
By complaining you're adding credibility to both. Not to mention, more people are coming to your comment on TWITTER to reply and share.
Just a thought.
How the standards-and-testing juggernaut has soured children on reading for pleasure: "There's a whole generation of kids who associate reading with assessment now." A book is seen not as fun but as something to be "analyz[ed] within an inch of its life": https://t.co/XW8OpP3RzE
Collective Teacher Efficacy is not about some "Kumbaya/our beliefs will manifest/power of positive thinking" type of influence.
It's about a shared understanding & commitment to what works for learning & being able to say,
"Here's how & why we know it's working for learners."
Teaching is not “activity facilitation”. So much (Bad) teaching is just assigning a big task that gives the impression of learning, but the students are really just busy. (Good) teaching involves Modeling, practice, and feedback, which never look as cute as a fancy activity.
